Tonight 24 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights.

2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning.

343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift.

60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol.

8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift.

It was the last day that fathers and mothers hugged their children, husbands kissed their wife, girlfriends hugged and kissed their boyfriend.

None of them saw past 10:00AM on September 11, 2001.

In one single moment life may never be the same, so live and enjoy the breaths you take today.

Macomb County Program- Safe at home

The program aims to reduce injuries in older adults and increase safety. This is done by installing:

~ Safety devices that can prevent a fall that may result in a debilitating injury or reduce independence
~ Life-saving devices such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
~ Accessibility devices

This includes improving the safety in the bathroom, while using the stairs within or exiting their home.

This is achieved through a professional and comprehensive safety assessment of the home performed by the home maintenance technician. They evaluate for not only safety devices but other services that would help make the home safer. Devices are installed the same day.

PLEASE NOTE: It is REQUIRED by the LANDLORD that you submit a request in writing/email to the office PRIOR to any changes being made to your apartment.

Call the Macomb Office of Senior Services to complete an intake at 586-469-5228. The intake will collect demographic information and identify the assistance needed.

Meals on Wheels is designed for older adults who are homebound and no longer prepare meals for themselves. Hot meals are locally prepared fresh on a daily basis and meet the recommended dietary guidelines.

Through the program, a volunteer delivers a meal directly to the seniors' door. These volunteers and paid drivers complete a background check and receive training.

The program is able to provide a chilled dinner meal, delivered at the same time, for a limited number of participants. We also provide shelf stable (canned and packaged food items) meals one to two times per year, in the event of unplanned closures.

Please call the Office of Senior Services at 586-469-5228 if interested in applying for this program.

If calling on behalf of an individual, please have the potential participant with you to verify the information provided and their interest in receiving the service.
