August 20, 2026
Sheriff’s Office Investigating Early-Morning Shooting in Shelby
On August 20, 2026, at approximately 3:35 a.m., the Toole County Sheriff’s Office/Dispatch Center received a 911 emergency call from an adult female at a residence in the 200 block of West Cascade Avenue in Shelby. The female reported that she had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and requested medical assistance.
Deputies and medical first responders were dispatched to the residence. The female was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Shortly thereafter, an adult male was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
A heavy law enforcement presence is expected in the area of Mineral Street and Cascade Avenue as deputies continue their investigation. Residents and motorists are asked to use caution and avoid the immediate area when possible.
The identities of the individuals involved are not being released at this time. Criminal charges remain pending the conclusion of the investigation.
There is no active threat to the public at this time.
Additional information will be released when it can be made available without compromising the ongoing investigation.

The Conrad community will be hosting a benefit and prayer vigil for the Williams family on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 4 pm, at the Conrad Golf Course. Mason Williams, son of Jessica Olson, was diagnosed on his 16th birthday with T-cell Lymphoblasyic Lymphoma, a rare blood cancer, and is currently undergoing treatment in Denver. Please show your support for this brave young man and his family however you are able.

It is with great sadness we share the news that Michael Earl Orvis, age 73, has passed away. A service will take place at 11 a.m., at Lakeview Cemetery in Valier, on Monday, April 6. A full obituary will be in the April 8 edition of the newspaper. Sincere condolences go out to Mike's family and many friends.
