Tomorrow makes 26 years since Asha Degree’s disappearance.

This Valentine's Day marks 26 years since 9-year-old Asha Degree disappeared. The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, and the SBI continue to tirelessly investigate this case. It is difficult to explain the massive amount of resources dedicated over the years and still to this day to find "Shelby's Sweetheart." You may be able to help us and give her family the answers they deserve. If you have information directly related to our investigation, call the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office at 704-484-4822. There is a combined reward up to $100,000. We will never stop searching for Asha.

On the morning of February 14, 2000, shortly after 6:40 AM, Shelby Rescue deployed K-9 search dogs to track Asha Degree’s movements.

This cold, wet, weather created ideal scent conditions. Scent stays low, settles into the grass, and is easier for dogs to follow.

🔎 What the search dogs found:
Asha’s scent was tracked from her home and then abruptly stopped two houses down (WCNC). When a K-9 loses a trail this suddenly, it can mean the person:

• entered a vehicle, or
• was lifted or carried

No further trail was detected of Asha past that location.

Why does it feel like we’ve gotten further from the truth, not closer?

WSOC Charlotte now reports detectives believe Asha Degree was abducted after leaving her Shelby home on Valentine’s Day 2000 — a dramatic shift from the long-pushed “runaway after a basketball game” theory.

Why the change now? And what does it mean for the people who insisted otherwise for decades?
