Somondoco Press

Somondoco Press Publishing, small press, poetry, manuscripts, prose, currently representing 10 authors Somondoco Press is an aggressive literary publisher producing highly designed, often illustrated books of fiction and poetry from no particular schools except the school of experience.

We have published both the short fiction collection and the novel. We publish both formal and open forms of poetry. (Until we turn the corner on profit, it's all free verse.) Our books are available through Amazon.com. We are also negotiating for a distributor to better support our stable of writers and their development in the literary marketplace. We regret that for now we do not have enough staff to accept unsolicited manuscripts. Somondoco Press staff are also associated with producing the annual Sotto Voce Poetry Festival in Shepherdstown (W.Va.). The name comes from a prehistoric town nestled on the slopes of the mountain of the same name in Colombia, where for millennia the residents have mined emeralds. Somondoco was developed by the Muiscas Indians.

Mission: Somondoco Press is committed to publishing excellent literature. We publish fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

“By beginning a diary, I was already conceding that life would be more bearable if I looked at it as an adventure and a tale. I was telling myself the story of a life, and this transmutes into an adventure the things which can shatter you.”
― Anaïs Nin

Writing Prompt:

Some genies live in bottles. Some live in lamps. This genie lives in a ring; specifically, a mood ring. Most genies grant three wishes. This one grants four--she has a problem with odd numbers.

What happens when your great grandmother dies, and the only thing she's left you in her will is this mood ring? What are your wishes? Remember, the more wishes you have, the harder it is to figure out what to wish for.

Writing Prompts:

You were a baby created by a wish, and you learn the cost of that when you hear about one of your friends’ cousins touching seawater and dying on contact. Children like you are fatally vulnerable to something, whether it’s snow, silver, too much distance from your home, or even kisses. You don’t know what your weakness is yet. How will you find out what it is and avoid it?

Today take a break from your rigorous and ingrained routine. Do something new. Sit on the other side of the bus, read from a magazine instead of a newspaper, choose a new cafe. Just shake things up a little. Your creative process could do with a bit of childlike wonder.
