Somondoco Press

Somondoco Press Publishing, small press, poetry, manuscripts, prose, currently representing 10 authors We have published both the short fiction collection and the novel.

Somondoco Press is an aggressive literary publisher producing highly designed, often illustrated books of fiction and poetry from no particular schools except the school of experience. We publish both formal and open forms of poetry. (Until we turn the corner on profit, it's all free verse.) Our books are available through Amazon.com. We are also negotiating for a distributor to better support our

stable of writers and their development in the literary marketplace. We regret that for now we do not have enough staff to accept unsolicited manuscripts. Somondoco Press staff are also associated with producing the annual Sotto Voce Poetry Festival in Shepherdstown (W.Va.). The name comes from a prehistoric town nestled on the slopes of the mountain of the same name in Colombia, where for millennia the residents have mined emeralds. Somondoco was developed by the Muiscas Indians.

"Jesus stumbled and reached
to brace himself against me, is how
I explain the hole in my chest,
an unexpected concavity where the wish
bone turns in on itself to keep out the world
rather than hold my heart inside,
the pocket sculpted just deep enough
to fit someone's desperately holy hand
as they passed along the Sad Way..."

I'm so happy my long poem Pectus Excavatum was just published in California Quartely. The journal is special to me since they also accepted the first poem I ever sent out in 1984. I promised to send a new one in 2064.
