We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out, offered help, shared prayers, or kept our family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time following the unexpected passing of my father, Jason Halm. Your support and kindness mean more than words can express. We plan to resume work on orders later this week, but ask for patience as it will take some time to get back on track with lead times while we adjust to this new chapter in our lives.

My dad was one of our greatest supporters from the very beginning. He played a meaningful role in helping us grow, whether it was building workbenches, proudly wearing our leather products on the job, or simply sharing our company with friends. His encouragement and love for what we do will always be a part of our story, and he will be deeply missed.

It’s with profound sadness that I have to make a post like this. The past 12 hours have been nothing but surreal. Yesterday evening after returning home from work, my father unexpectedly passed away due to a medical emergency.

54 is too young. I’m really going to miss you dad.

Please understand lead times given for orders at time of checkout will no longer be accurate as we tend to family matters and are out of the shop. We appreciate your support, patience, and understanding as we navigate this difficult time..

A Boston style shield recently delivered to Northern Virginia.

Our shields are a little different than the traditional Boston fronts made with patent leather. Ours are instead made with veg tanned leather that we use for hand carving and tooling.

Each number on these shields is hand carved and tooled before being painted. Afterwards we add the stitching color of your choice before it ships out.

Our Story

Salt City Leatherworks was established in Syracuse, NY in February of 2018. What started as a hobby in 2017, owner Kyle Halm quickly found a knack for making 100% handmade leather helmet fronts. Coming from a deeply rooted fire service background, Kyle took his hobby to the next level wanting to provide completely custom shields for fellow firefighters at a very affordable rate.

All products produced by Salt City Leatherworks are handmade by a firemen for firemen. We pride ourselves with creating high quality products, made from the toughest leathers on the market, built to last.
