❤️🖤 – June 1 🎓

This weekend, we celebrated a milestone that deserves special recognition — the graduation of our McKinney-Vento seniors.

Despite the challenges that come with housing instability, these students showed incredible strength, resilience, and perseverance to earn their high school diplomas. This accomplishment is no small feat, and we are so proud of each and every one of them. ❤️

As a small token of appreciation and support for their next chapter, the MV Team provided Senior Starter Kits filled with helpful resources for life after high school, including:
✨ FAFSA resources
✨ College checklists
✨ Tax guidelines
✨ Local food and housing resources

We are also incredibly thankful for the support of our amazing community partners who helped celebrate our graduates:
🎢 Jeremy Goodin and Penn Station of Louisville donated TWO Kentucky Kingdom passes for each senior.
🍽️ Pastor Alicia Akridge and Davidson Memorial Church donated restaurant gift cards for all graduating seniors.

It truly takes a community to support students experiencing homelessness, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make our seniors feel seen, celebrated, and supported as they begin this new journey.

Congratulations Class of 2026 — your H.E.A.R.T. Team is cheering you on every step of the way! 🎓❤️

- May 25

Last week the McKinney-Vento H.E.A.R.T. Team took time to reflect on a year filled with growth, new partnerships, expanded support for students and families, and the upcoming opening of the H.E.A.R.T. House. ❤️

Even in the rain, we enjoyed visiting the Tin Man exhibit in the "Heart" of Bernheim Forest . This symbol aligns perfectly with the McKinney-Vento mission. Like the Tin Man searching for a heart and helping Dorothy find her way home, our work is rooted deeply in kindness, advocacy, and hope for students and families navigating housing insecurity.

We also proudly wore our new team shirts commemorating the upcoming opening of the H.E.A.R.T. House — a special reminder of how far we’ve come together and the exciting future ahead. 🌳🏠🌈🩶

Every day, we strive to help students overcome obstacles, feel supported, and find a sense of hope and home again.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, the McKinney-Vento H.E.A.R.T. Program pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. ❤️🤍💙

This weekend is also a reminder of the importance of community, compassion, and caring for one another; values that guide the work we do every day to support students and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

We are grateful for the freedom to serve our community and for the many families, staff, partners, and supporters who help make the H.E.A.R.T. Program possible.

Wishing everyone a safe, meaningful, and restful Memorial Day weekend.

: Meet the Team 💙

This week we are spotlighting Miranda Goodin, McKinney-Vento Program Assistant!
Since joining BCPS in March 2026, Miranda has made a meaningful impact by helping remove barriers for students and families experiencing homelessness. One of the things she loves most about her job is building relationships with students and helping provide a reliable way to get to school each day.
One of her favorite memories was being asked by one of her student riders to pet their dog — a simple but meaningful reminder of the trust and connections built through this work. 💙
Fun fact: Miranda has been a surrogate for a friend — twice! Outside of work, she enjoys baking, thrifting, and traveling.
Her favorite quote:
“Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.”
And of course…her go-to treat is always Diet Coke! 🥤
Thank you, Miranda, for the compassion, kindness, and support you show our students and families every day!

On this International Day of Families, we are especially reminded of the power of community and the importance of creating spaces where families feel supported, welcomed, and cared for. ❤️🏡

A huge THANK YOU to Hunter Brown and HB Landscaping for helping make the outside of the HEART House beautiful! 🌿 Your hard work and generosity are helping bring this vision to life, and we are so grateful. There’s still more work to come, but it is amazing to see everything coming together.

HEART House update:
🐦 Our nest of 3 robin eggs has officially hatched, and the babies are thriving!
🚧 Parking lot paving will be completed next week
🏠 We are getting closer and closer to our move-in date this summer!

The HEART House is being built through the kindness, support, and dedication of people who believe every family deserves hope, stability, and care. Thank you to everyone helping make this dream a reality for our students and families. 💙

💙 McKinney-Vento Monday: Meet the Team 💙

This week we’re highlighting Brandy Boston, our Transportation Program Assistant…AKA the van driver who keeps our students moving and supported every day 🚐💙

For the past year and a half, Brandy has been more than just transportation—she’s built meaningful connections with students and families, helping them feel seen, supported, and cared for.

One of her favorite memories?
After her first year, a family she worked with invited her to a birthday party…where she was welcomed like family. 💙 She still keeps in touch and celebrates life’s moments with them today. That’s the HEART of this work.

Brandy says what she loves most is building relationships, not just with students and families, but across the school system and community bringing awareness to the McKinney-Vento program and the impact it has right here in Bullitt County.
✨ Fun facts about Brandy:
• She’s a thrift shopping pro 🛍️
• She works with a nonprofit supporting women escaping trafficking
• She volunteers with animal rescue & even walks dogs 🐾
• Go-to snack? PIZZA 🍕

Her words to live by:
“Treat others with empathy…we can stand with people through both good and hard moments, even if we haven’t experienced what they’re going through.”
We are so grateful for the compassion, dedication, and heart Brandy brings to this work every single day 💙

A huge THANK YOU to the The Roll Call Foundation for their generous donation and installation of an ADA ramp at the HEART House! 💙

This addition helps ensure the HEART House is accessible and welcoming for all students and families we serve. It will also make accessing our laundry facilities much easier for families.

We are so grateful to the Roll Call volunteers and Operation Ramp It Up for helping make this possible. Community partnerships like these help bring the HEART House vision to life!
