Have you read Riveting Poetry & Rhyme By Azaan Kamau?

Azaan Kamau, Black Entrepreneur, Poet, Author, Publisher, Trail Blazing Pioneer Celebrates her Black History by Publishing RIVETING; Poetry & Rhyme!

Azaan started writing her unflinching poetry in the 1980’s. Her love for rhythm, rhyme and verse began innocently while her grandmother read nursery rhymes which she still remembers today. By the time Azaan was a teen, she had filled several notebooks of lyrics, poetry, rap and prose.

This collection of poems was written while she was still at Dominguez High School. This rare book is a tiny part of Azaan’s testimony as a black child who loved women. Her poetry was her therapy as she grew into womanhood. Writing Riveting Poetry and Rhyme was part of her journey.

Beloved Community,

Last Wednesday, I sat around moping, brooding and licking my wounds over the recent death of my beloved friend Tara.
When I turned on the TV to my surprise Gayle King was interviewing my treasured, and cherished Cicely Tyson! They discussed her new memoir. I was sooo exited, I ordered three copies before the interview ended!

Honestly the interview scrapped me up off the floor, and out of my stupor. The interview placed a real smile on my face.
I wished mom were alive to see this amazing interview. Mom sooo loved her! She always said, “see that? That’s a real superhero, not all this otha mess” ! LOL When I was little, mom handed me her Jet Magazine from 1973. I was in awe with her beautiful cornrowed hair. Mom always said Tyson’s beautiful hair was symbol of her unflinching spirit and non-verbal communication to a higher power. Thus, I’ve worn cornrows most my life. When Cicely screamed and cried in Roots, I cried with her. I was transfixed as a child. From that moment on, Cicely Tyson took my breath away!

She meant a great many things to me, even as a child. Too, too many to list, but I will share this… To me Cicely Tyson looked like glistening radiant diamonds, on screen and in person. She looked like elegant unapologetic blackness! Also, each time I wrote a new book, or published one of her colleague’s books, I personally mailed her a copy!

I loved how she insisted on roles that did not require her to compromise or sacrifice values. I LOVE how she remained bold, but graceful. Empowered, but dainty. Brilliant, yet humble.
I was stunned when I learned of her passing. She was so so flawless. So beautiful, truly shattering all of stereotypes!

She will live on through all of us!

May she forever rest in power!

I was just informed about the passing of our very own Ms. CeCe Antoinette!

These words seem dramatically inadequate to covey the depth of my shock and sadness over the passing of my dear friend, guru and author. Honestly, I cannot find words to express this feeling. All if this falls way short of my actual sorrow.

M. CeCe was the hardest working woman in Hollywood! Her amazing filmography, list of published works and upcoming projects always kept me in awe!

I realize nothing I can ever say can minimize the loss of this phenomenal amazing woman! Her smile, passionate determination and gigantic spirit will certainly be missed.

I am sending my sincere condolences, all my love and light to all who loved and learned from her!

My prayer is that her huge smile and laughter will be our beckon of hope when we need it the most. What I know for sure, her brilliant light will live on in all that she touched!-Azaan

As you know we all have gone through a huge transformation and evolution.

The year 2020 started with the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his beautiful daughter.

From there, Covid-19 has needlessly infected and killed countless people across the nation. This death toll could have been prevented with the right leadership. My suggestion to you is to stay and be safe! This virus is so contagious!

For centuries, people of color have been accosted on this continent since the arrival of Columbus via his three ships: The Pinta, The Nina and the Santa Maria.

Many things have happened since we were so-called emancipated. I have lost count of innocent black and brown lives murdered by the ignorance of racism and the bigots who perpetrate it.

I said all of that to say, educate, empower and uplift our people. All of them, young and old. Permanent sustainable change must start now. Social justice and racial equality is a human right. It is our birthright.

I shared this not only for our black and brown brethren, but all of the oppressed marginalized humans across the planet.

Again, stay safe and be well. Love each other, and love them hard!

"We're sick and tired of being sick and tired"
