Through the hustle and bustle of fall enrollment, Kristina Beeler took the time to reflect on 50 years of costumes; 50 years of rhinestones; 50 years of teaching Pliés, tendus, pirouettes, Jete; and 50 years of helping develop some of the region’s most decorated dancers.
Kristina’s Studio of Dance saw its first students when Beeler was just a teenager, and 50 years later, she is not looking to take a break any time soon.

“Over half of (nonprofits) are citing budget deficits this year, projecting,” United Way of Grayson County Executive Director Katie Eubank said. “A day like North Texas Giving Day provides a platform for individuals to not only learn about the works that nonprofits are doing, but to also, if they feel compelled, make a financial donation as well.
“At the end of the day, dollars are the only thing that will keep lights on.”
Through the North Texas Giving Day website, people can learn about local organizations who have highlighted their programs with pictures and videos.
“It is a great opportunity to look for volunteer opportunities, if you have time to give,” Eubank said. “The most valuable thing that anyone has to give is their time.”
With more than 3,500 nonprofits calling North Texas home, Giving Day has become a big moment for the organizations that help the community help itself to grow and thrive. The theme for the Sept.

“As far as big changes, we like to keep things pretty constant because there are a lot of things that people look forward to,” Sherman Tourism and Main Street Manager Sarah McRae said Friday. “Those are like the free activities on kids’ alley, and we have been doing a few carnival rides and the train over by Bearcat Stadium. Of course, we kick off the day with the Education Foundation’s fun run and the pancake breakfast at the Methodist Church. Those are constants that we love to keep the same for everyone year over year.”
There will be about 200 vendors including the 15 food trucks.
The Sherman Arts Festival will be back for its 44th annual event coming this week. The event to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Kidd Key Lawn in Sherman will feature about 200 vendors including artisans, businesses and 15 food trucks.
