I think with a whiteboard. I'm passionate about excellence. And I'm 0.5 second away from an odd metaphor. At the end of the day we all are stewards. We take nothing with us when we die. We leave behind what we've curated. So we must consider at all times our legacy. Not just our resources but character. Primary being our time and how we spend it. Act wisely with wise counsel,
Collaborate with integrity,
Execute with excellence,
To God be the glory!

What do you want your finances to look like in 100 years?

I think of this when people say they are “bearish.”

Planning changes the opportunities you are able to take advantage of. I love seeing lives and businesses change in the work we do.

Wealth building also requires the passing of wisdom. Resources alone are not enough. Train your children. While they become-- we are undone. Pass the baton to a champion! Which means:

Discipline them
Give them responsibility
Call them into their gifts
Respect and support them
Encourage them in trials
Do NOT take hard lessons from them
Create a heritage of honor
Train them up as masters of this age
And builders of right culture
Lead them well
Stir up their creativity

Put them in places that encourage, "How to think" not "What to think."

Ultimately for the Glory of God! that his name would be bright among the nations, and his hope would be fully known in the generations that come from our name, for his namesake.

Your financial ‘Order of Operations’ always starts with YOUR values.

1 in 3 Americans making over $100,000 a year live paycheck to paycheck.

This isn’t a math problem.

It’s a behavior problem.

Harsh truth about your tax preparer,

they’re not likely a tax strategist 👇

But that’s what you’re looking for.

So, you’re constantly frustrated and disappointed with your tax preparer because they’re not:

1. Proactive in communicating with you
2. Explaining to you which strategies are relevant and why
3. An expert in the industry you want to grow in
4. Discussing common pitfalls to be careful of
5. Giving you solutions and only telling you things not to do

It would be similar to hiring a bookkeeper but expecting them to be your CFO.

Or working with a nurse and expecting them to have the same knowledge and skills as a doctor.

Or hiring a handyman and asking them to build a house.

A tax preparer and tax strategist are two different roles.

A tax preparer usually looks to what has already occurred, like a historian.

A tax strategist usually looks to the future to what could be, like a financial planner.

Be clear with yourself what you’re looking for.

Do you want a tax preparer, or a tax strategist, or both?

Once you’re clear with what you want, you’ll reduce your frustration when it comes to taxes because you’ll align your wants with what you’re getting.

And your tax savings may actually surprise you once you start working with a real tax strategist.

(This is not financial advice, a great CPA is also a strategist. For best results use all the professionals that make sense for your immediate business/personal situation)

“Make haste slowly”

“That is done fast enough, which is done well enough” -Augustus

Don’t trade speed for eloquence, complex problems are solved equitably in collaboration, don’t procrastinate, set reasonable deadlines, make time for innovation, reach goals with grace and poise, with words be tact.

I’ve had meetings on a pontoon, hosted cookouts, sat across from shed tears. I’ve played with clients children, done life with their families. I’m not good at distancing myself from what I do.

I host meetings at my house, regularly we make clients dinner and invite them over.

I desire brotherhood and growth in every aspect of a clients life, we aren’t pillars of success devoid of partnership and relationships.

I’m not a stuffy advisor speaking to someone through papers behind a desk, I will keep you accountable to your dreams and values.

I want to speak with the terms of the layman and see them grow, build, and fight for their honor and generations.

In short, I love meeting people where they are at. To be their trusted counselor and mediator of wisdom and guidance.

And I understand we are to bring our families with us when we do that. Sometimes things aren’t perfect when I operate this way. But it’s real and meaningful. I couldn’t ask for more fulfilling work.

I’m fine with not being traditionally white-collar.

You can work 60 hours and still be a fantastic parent. You just can't work 60 hours then come home and stare at your phone. Intentionality is key. Unless you are working 80 plus hours a week, just make sure when you are present, you are present. You can be 2 feet away and 2000 miles apart if you aren't giving your child your full attention when necessary.

I’m afraid we’ve forgotten how to prepare for winter with our finances.

In all but a century fast has replaced prudent.

There is a duplicity of responsibility in biblical financial stewardship:

Trusting God
Acting Wisely

God sustains both.

Go fast, slow.

Laying a proper framework for growth makes it steady when you climb the heights of opportunity.
