Following last weekend’s Railfair ‘25, it’s time to get back to work on the railroad!
Monday saw a bunch of work getting done. Wiring for block detection replacements and signals getting installed for our next CTC push. Maintenance work repairing drops that were made temporary for track changes, or maybe that occasional short rail that has since been discovered we missed…oops!
After researching, planning, drawing and mocking up, we finally have our “Snyder’s Bridge” in Shatigcoke, NY. This all started from 1934 sketches from a bridge and building team making repairs to the Boston and Maine owned structure.
The sketches were modified to a drawing that would fit the space and location we had, cardboard mockup made which lead to a few minor changes.
The bridge was installed today, along with 5 piers and two abutments. Fit looks good, land forms need adjusting, and a nice healthy coat of stain and weathering to make it look like it did some time in the 1990s, before it was removed and replaced in the early 2000s.
Attached are pictures that show the process from concept to project well underway.
