When Romeo, a Great Dane mix, jumped out of Reshana Matter’s car in early March near the outskirts of Pinetop-Lakeside, she immediately searched the area and checked with nearby shelters, but found no sign of her dog.
What Matter didn’t know, and what many pet owners in Navajo County are now learning, is that stray dogs picked up by Navajo County Animal Control are not always taken to the nearest shelter.

Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Continues Seeking Information in the 2016 Murder of Wilfred “Will” Eaton

Holbrook, AZ – The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) is renewing its call for information in the unsolved 2016 homicide of Wilfred “Will” Eaton. As the nine-year anniversary approaches, investigators and family members continue to seek answers in this heartbreaking case.

On the morning of Sunday, July 10, 2016, deputies responded to a report of a man found unresponsive near the side of the road in Sun Valley, Arizona. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Wilfred Eaton, had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Eaton, originally from Arkansas, was residing on the 9200 block of Wild Forest Trail in Sun Valley at the time of the incident.

Locally, he was known as the “Sun Valley Dancer” or the “Dancing Man”, recognized by many for his joyful spirit and distinctive presence in the community. He was last seen alive in Holbrook on the afternoon of July 9, 2016.

Will Eaton was a beloved son, brother, cousin, father, and grandfather. His family continues to grieve and remains steadfast in their hope for justice.

“We are committed to solving this case and bringing closure to Will’s loved ones,” said Sheriff David Clouse. “We believe someone knows something. Even the smallest detail could help move this investigation forward.”

The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information about the events surrounding Will Eaton’s death to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
