Born on this day, May 28th 1964, in Lynchburg, Virginia, was Phil Vassar, country music singer, songwriter who has co-written singles for several country artists, including Tim McGraw ("For a Little While", "My Next Thirty Years"), Jo Dee Messina ("Bye, Bye", "I'm Alright"), Collin Raye ("Little Red Rodeo"), and Alan Jackson ("Right on the Money"). In 1999, he was named by American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers as Country Songwriter of the Year.

Born on this day, May 28th 1944, in Letcher County, Kentucky, was Gary Stewart, country musician and songwriter known for his distinctive vibrato voice and his southern rock influenced, outlaw country sound. During the mid 1970's Time magazine described him as the "king of honkytonk." His biggest hit was the 1975

On this day in Rock music history (May 28th 1991) 🎢 The Smashing Pumpkins released their debut studio album 'GISH'. Frontman Billy Corgan described Gish as a "very spiritual album". Despite initially peaking at only #195 on the Billboard 200 upon its release, Gish was eventually certified platinum (one million copies shipped) by the RIAA. The album reached #1 on the College Music Journal chart, which tracks airplay and popularity on college radio stations. It also had a six-week run on the New Zealand Albums Chart, peaking at #40. Until the release of The Offspring album "Smash" in 1994, Gish was the highest-selling independently released album of all time. Gish would later be reissued under the Virgin label, and was certified platinum on Feb. 1995

Happy birthday to John Fogerty! He was born on May 28th 1945 and is a musician, singer, and songwriter. Together with Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, and his brother Tom Fogerty, he founded the band Creedence Clearwater Revival ("CCR"), for which he was the lead singer, lead guitarist, and principal songwriter.
