A safe space for queer musicians to record huge riffs. Nu House Studios is located in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, minutes outside of Worcester and less than an hour from both Boston and Providence. While officially established in 2020, we (Aki McCullough & James Goldmann) have written, produced and engineered music together for more than 12 years. Our services include remote and in-person engineeri

ng, production, mixing, and mastering, and we specialize in remote session drumming for all genres.

Our aim is to create a safe and comfortable space for all local musicians to create the best version of their art. We especially wish to create a safe space for queer musicians and musicians of color, who are severely underrepresented and need their voices amplified. In an industry dominated primarily by cisgendered, straight, white men, our studio is co-owned by a trans woman. We are acutely aware of the struggle queer, POC and trans musicians encounter in our scenes, and strive help alleviate it any way we can.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, studios are adjusting the way they operate, and we are no exception. We place a special emphasis on safety while still providing a personalized experience for every artist, whether remote or in-person. Our live room is completely isolated with a separate entrance and is sanitized between each session with a minimum 24 break between projects. For session work, or if other members of your band would like to join us remotely, we offer direct audio streaming via Zoom. Our main facilities include:

- An acoustically treated live room with Pearl MCX Masters drums, Sabian Artisan cymbals, and top-of-the-line Tama & DW hardware.

- Pro Tools HDX, Antelope Audio's Orion Studio Synergy Core, and 16 channels of Focusrite preamps, for a total of 28 channels. A large collection of analog rack gear, tube amplifiers, cabinets, instruments, pedals and more - see our full equipment list at NUHOUSESTUDIOS.COM.

today is the final day of our 5 year anniversary fundraiser! we have a limited pre order design available as a shirt and hoodie through tomorrow! thank you to everyone who joined one of our mix streams/interviews the last 2 months and everyone who has donated to the fundraiser 💓 we've raised over $700 dollars for the Trans Musician Fund, which helps cover the costs of trans artists to work at the studio.

trans people as a whole make 70 cents on the dollar for every cis man, and trans women make 60 cents on the dollar for every cis man. in the past couple years as coordinated transphobia campaigns have ramped up, trans people are treated as a liability in customer-facing jobs, as the threat of harassment has grown significantly. all of this means that trans people have less income for anything beyond basic needs, and this includes music production. the art of trans people is more important than ever to be seen and heard right now. since 2022, the Trans Musician Fund has donated over $4000 to trying to bridge the gap for trans musicians.

throughout our fundraiser, trans people have majorly stepped up and been over 50% of our contributions, and for that we are so grateful for the enthusiasm and support within our community ❤️ we are especially asking those of you who are not trans who have worked with nu house, enjoyed a release we have worked on, or just want to be a support trans art to consider ordering a shirt/hoodie or donating! being an ally means materially contributing to improving the conditions of trans people. all pre orders/donations over $25 automatically submit you for our raffle! so far we have 2 additional shirts & hoodies and a full song master (which you can choose to donate if you yourself are not a musician) as raffle prizes!

We are very excited to announce the next phase of our 5th Anniversary Celebration: our Trans Musician Fund merch fundraiser/raffle and our featured recipients of our Trans Musician Fund grants!

Until November 29th we will have a pre-order open for T-shirts and hoodies in black, pink, and camo green featuring a new design by our friend .yulianto! All profits from shirts go to the Trans Musician Fund, which has donated over 3k since 2022 to help cover the costs for trans musicians to work with us at the studio. We will also have a raffle that anyone who gets a shirt will be entered in, with additional prizes with more purchases. 🔗 is in the bio :)

Throughout the next couple of weeks we will be mixing and mastering the music of several artists on-stream, all of whom have had their mixing and mastering costs fully covered by the Trans Musician Fund: .band, , , and ! 5 years ago during the beginning of the covid lockdowns, and i () decided to grow our personal home studio into something bigger. after a decade of self-producing our own music, we officially began working with other artists on recording, mixing, and mastering to bring their artistic visions to life. we realized our connection to the trans & q***r communities allowed us to build a unique space and community that offered something most other studios didn't at the time.

5 years later and nu house and the world around us have both changed significantly. the need for supporting trans artists has only grown as the US and world at large have regressed on trans acceptance and rights. many of us have been pushed from traditional employment into survival freelancing. both because of and in spite of this, i've seen many more trans people become empowered to work freelance as studio engineers, live engineers, and musicians.

for our 5th anniversary we will be celebrating trans artists & engineers with a month and a half long streaming and fundraising event. we'll be doing multiple weekly streams of projects such as the sets from 2025. we are also accepting applications for fully-funded songs/projects to mix on-stream! see the slides for more details and reach out to us soon if you are interested in having your music featured.

additionally, we will be having trans engineers and artists on our stream as guests for interviews/q&a. while we have several guests lined up already, feel free to reach out if you're interested!

all money from twitch subs, donations, and merch sales will go to the Trans Musician Fund, which to date has paid out $4000 to cover the expenses of trans artists to work at nu house. streaming starts tomorrow hope to see you there :)

wanted to share our gratitude for every artist that trusted us with their music in 2024 ❤️ we started the studio in 2020 with a couple tracking projects at the beginning of the pandemic and couldn't have imagined it would grow into what it is today.

it's impossible to highlight all our favorite moments from this year, but releasing Trans Rights II: WE ARE NO LONGER ASKING was a big one. we are proud to have raised over $3000 for trans musicians and $750 for Doctors Without Borders through the compilation. it was also a joy to work with , both on the 2023 NFF sets and recording at the 2024 fest, our first time getting into live recording. also want to thank for the amazing new logo and for everyone who gave us a platform to talk about our vision, including /, / and Beaver Mosh.

We're very excited that has received the opportunity to mix & master the live recordings from last years New Friends Fest. In order to help support the work we've put into these sets, we're releasing a pre-order for this Pg. 99 inspired sphynx shirt, designed by our friend . The pre-order will be open from now until Friday 2/16.

New Friends Fest is a DIY fest made possible by the collective work of the international screamo community. NFF has given a voice to many trans and q***r artists who are able to perform to a larger audience and share the recordings of their sets. Supporting the festival and those who help make it possible serves to continue elevating the music of trans artists.

That's a wrap on year 3 of Nu House Studios 🖤🐈‍⬛️ thank you to everyone that trusted us with your project, everyone that recommended us to a friend, and those of you that contributed to the Trans Musician Fund.

2023 was a landmark year for us in many ways. We worked on some of our most challenging and rewarding projects so far. We released our second compilation, "Trans Rights Or Else!", this one featuring all unreleased original music, much of it mixed and mastered at Nu House. And we raised over $3000 for the Trans Musician Fund, with four of our releases this year being partially funded by the TMF.

There's so much more coming for 2024. We have several projects lined up to mix & master, so get in contact if you'd like to work with us while there's still openings! And check our 🔗's if you're a trans artist hoping to receive a TMF donation, or would like to donate to the fund.
