I-74 bridge work begins Sept. 8

Vermilion County structure damaged by oversize load

FITHIAN – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that County Road 100 East over Interstate 74, just west of Fithian in Vermilion County, will close Sept. 8.

The closure is necessary to repair bridge beams damaged by an oversized load and is expected to last approximately three weeks.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

The event will take place in the north parking lot of DACC, 2000 East Main Street, Danville, and is open to all residents of Vermilion County.
This environmentally focused initiative encourages residents to responsibly dispose of broken, obsolete, or unwanted electronics. While the event is free of charge, donations to Keep Vermilion County Beautiful are appreciated to support future beautification efforts.
Residents may bring a maximum of seven televisions or computer monitors, in any combination, per household. Other accepted items include:

Please note that the following items will not be accepted: household batteries, paint, motor oil, or large appliances. Residents are reminded that Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain electronic products—including TVs, monitors, computers, and DVD players—in landfills.
