Silsbee cages the Bulldogs, advances in the playoffs

SILSBEE — Silsbee took home a win against Sweeny Bulldogs tonight. Closing out a dominant game, the Tigers deployed the backups with freshman running back London Tyler (19) finding the end zone twice, but both were called back for holding calls.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the 4th, when the game was well out of hand. Your Silsbee Tigers are Bi-District champions. Final score: 48-27.

Silsbee’s Julian Brown and the tough Tiger defense shutdown Sweeny in the 3rd. Brown returned an interception to the redzone, Setting up a TZ Hafford touchdown. Johnson and TZ combined for two more 3rd quarter scores. Silsbee leads 48-14 to start the 4th

Silsbee barrels through Bulldogs in the first half

SILSBEE — The Silsbee Tigers have rolled through the Sweeny Bulldogs defense, during the first half of their first round playoff game at La Porte High School.

The Tigers started the game with a scare as Sweeny looked to take the opening kickoff to the house but a Bulldogs penalty brought them back to mid field, where the Tigers forced a punt. A big run by Corde Wilson (18) put the Tigers in scoring position, and senior quarterback Jacaleb Johnson drove it home. The Silsbee defense then quickly forced a turnover on downs.

The first quarter ended: Silsbee 7 Sweeny 0

The Tigers started the second half strong with Johnson running through Bulldog defenders and Haegyn Morris (8) capping the drive off with a hard goal line run, putting the Tigers up 14.

Pinned deep after a great Silsbee kickoff the Bulldogs run defense began to give the Tigers a challenge as Sweeny’s Michael Robinson (2) busted off a big run and Jacory Maisonet (5) took the dogs home on a reverse sweep.

Silsbee let lose running down hill with Johnson, Morris, and TZ Hafford (0). Morris scored again on the ground to bring to make it 21-7.

Senior Silsbee defensive back, Julian Brown (1) then intercepted a downfield pass giving Johnson the opportunity to drive the Tigers down to score again.

Sweeny went up tempo in the final two minutes of the game. Catching the Tigers on the back foot, Maisonet scored his second touchdown of the night.

The score at half is: Silsbee 28 Sweeny 14 The winner will play the winner of La Grange vs La Vega.
