Love the Gila River? Tune in. Martha Cooper is the Freshwater Program director for The Nature Conservancy New Mexico. Martha breaks down the results of a ten-year study, published in the February 2026 Journal: Hydrological Processes that informs the importance of letting rivers have more room to flow. The Gila is unique among Western rivers because it still retains extraordinary flow variability, including very large floods that continue to shape its channels and floodplain. The Community is invited to enjoy the special blend of southwestern traditional music, called Chilegumbo, by our beloved friends. This event will showcase the many musicians who played with Bayou Seco, or who learned these special songs on fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and ukulele.

Every year, thousands of people in lot-lease communities are displaced by predatory investors who buy the land beneath homes.

Guest JoAnne DeMichele, a member of our community, is an advocate for residents of manufactured home communities and the president of the Land of Enchantment Manufactured Home Owners Alliance.

Joanne has been working to bring awareness to the often-precarious situations and the lack of homeowner protection and security experienced by those living in manufactured home communities to the attention of State and Federal Legislators and local communities, including Silver City P&Z.

She presented to the Silver City Planning and Zoning Commission on April 7th, and we will hear her speaking to the commission.
