Hello All,

As of March 18, 2020, Briar Cliff University has made the decision to move to online instruction, with the information given by local, state and national officials in prevention of the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

BCU is doing everything in its power to minimize the exposure and spread of the virus and to do so the university has decided to move all classes online until April 14, 2020. Classes will also be suspended March 16-18 for faculty to prepare their courses for online instruction.

Classes will resume, as of now, on April 14. However, the school will be notifying the students, faculty, staff and community by April 7 as to whether classes will continue online for the remainder of the semester or not.

The campus will stay “open” during this time and is allowing for students to remain on campus. The dining halls and all work-study jobs will be available to the students but will remain optional. No visitors are allowed on campus.

As far as anything BCU sponsored, it will be suspended until further notice. Athletic events have been postponed for three weeks starting on March 16 through April 5 per the Great Plains Athletic Conference Council of Presidents. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has also announced that all winter championships are canceled. Spring championships have not yet been decided upon.

Any additional updates will be sent through emails and can be found on the COVID-19 website located on the BCU website.

Due to the movement of online classes, BCU Radio will be all music and Catholic programming until further notice. This will allow us to keep our radio hosts and managers as safe as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

BCU Radio

On April 14, 1986 BCU Radio began operating as Briar Cliff College’s student-run radio station under the call letters KLIF. Associate Professor Ralph Swain managed a Title III grant to secure the radio equipment. Over the years, BCU Radio has groomed dozens of students who chose a future in radio broadcasting.

BCU Radio broadcasts from the Briar Cliff University campus by way of CableOne educational access Channel 12 on campus and channel 60 off campus and streaming online. A potential local listening audience of 120,000 people in Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff, North Sioux City, McCook Lake, and Dakota Dunes are listening in.

The BCU Radio staff and announcers serve an important function in airing new music from emerging music groups and artists instead of emulating the typical Top 40 commercial format. In effect, BCU Radio is on the cutting edge of new music and serves a vital function for the local audience.
