We made the trip to Clarksdale, Mississippi, for the Pinetop Perkins Foundation Workshop Blues Showcase — the closing-night celebration of the foundation’s 17th annual workshop week, where musicians gather to learn, play, and carry the blues forward.

The night took us to Ground Zero Blues Club, a place that feels like much more than a venue. It’s part blues club, part community gathering place, and part living postcard from the heart of Mississippi blues country.

The Effigies’ recent album Burned has been described through the band’s official store as their first new release in 17 years and the final album with vocals from late lead singer John Kezdy, who died during the recording period.

On June 18, Backline Music Hall opened the first show in its Summer Youth Concert Series with Reece Burks, Celie Duffie and Davis White. The venue had it listed as a youth-centered night with music starting at 7 p.m. and an all-ages spirit built right into the idea of the event.
