Your videos are failing because you’re not tracking metrics. Here are 7 metrics to start monitoring for success:

You spent five-figures on a beautiful brand story video, but you’re not tracking its performance.

So, how are you supposed to know if it was worth the investment?

Here are some key metrics you should be tracking for all types of video marketing:
- View Count
- Total Watch Time
- Click-Through Rate (CTR)
- Impressions
- Average View Duration
- Returning Viewers
- Unique Viewers

View Count
View count is an important, but an often over-valued metric. It’s great for establishing a baseline and a general overview for your video's performance.

Impressions
Impressions are the total number of people who were exposed to your content. They didn’t necessarily view or interact with your video, but they were exposed to it.

Total Watch Time
Total watch time is the cumulative count of all time your video was viewed from all viewers.

Average View Duration
Average view duration is one of the most important metrics; this reveals where your video is succeeding or failing. If you can keep viewers past the first 10 seconds you’re on the right track.

Click-Through-Rate (CTR)
Click-Through-Rate (or CTR) is the percent of people who clicked your video when it was shown in their feed. This is valuable when testing titles and thumbnails to drive engagement with your content.

Returning Viewers
Returning viewers is a measure of who returns to watch more of your videos after initial exposure. This is a great metric for determining if you’re building a community or dying out.

Unique Viewers
The number of unique viewers who are watching your videos. This is different from view count because each time a viewer watches your video it counts as a view, but unique viewers only counts the number of people watching, regardless of replays. This is a great metric for determining audience size.

You’re probably thinking “how am I ever going to track all this data?”, and that’s a valid concern.

Thankfully, all major social channels have built in tools to track data.

- LinkedIn Analytics

We are thrilled to launch this brand story video we created for HorsePower! This video helped Horsepower raise funds for a future site expansion and vision project.
