Rest in peace Rooster.

The Wichita Police Department is sad to announce the loss of K-9 Rooster, who was shot and killed in the line of duty this evening.

At approximately 8 PM on 03-18-2017, Wichita Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance with a weapon at a residence inside the Lamplighter Mobile Home Park located in the 2300 block of E. MacArthur. Shortly after officers arrived on scene the suspect of the disturbance came outside. Officers on scene observed a gun on the suspect. A Wichita Police K-9 Handler released K-9 Rooster to apprehend the suspect. The suspect begins shooting and Rooster is killed. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect. The male suspect was transported to an area hospital and was pronounced deceased from this injuries.

K-9 Rooster has served with the Wichita Police Department for five years. He will be greatly missed by all.
