THE DIZZY AND DAFFY DEAN BARNSTORMING TOUR
Race, Media, and America’s National Pastime

Phil S. Dixon, distinguished Baseball Historian will return to Sioux Falls on Friday, August 6. Dixon’s latest publication, The Dizzy and Daffy Dean Barnstorming Tour will be featured at Phil’s appearance in Sioux Falls. Dixon first appeared at Augustana College during the summer of 1988. Phil has been a regular visitor to Sioux Falls over the past thirty years. Phil was last in Sioux Falls in 2016 on his The Kansas City Monarchs in Your Hometown tour. Phil’s presentations highlight the exceptional role that Sioux Falls has played in the performances by African American players in past 125 years. It is a great history and an enjoyable presentation honoring diversity and inclusion.
This year’s appearance is special. Phil is scheduled to be at the Sioux Falls Sunfish game on Friday night, August 6th. The Sunfish play their home games at Ronken Field on the Augustana University Campus. Phil will be signing books, telling stories, and playing the National Anthem prior to the Sioux Falls Sunfish game.
Phil’s presentation will be held in a classroom in the Elmen Center adjacent to Ronken Field.

His stories include being a paper boy; working at his parent’s grocery store; cross country skiing on the Big Sioux River; hitchhiking to the West Coast during college; and meeting his wife on an Indian Reservation.
The tales describe a mostly carefree and idyllic childhood and the challenges of moving from town to town. These are stories of honor, sadness, excitement, and love. They are universal and recognizable to us all as we move through the adventure of called life

Mariah Press/Productions is working with the University Press of Kansas on the distribution of Native Hoops in the Upper Midwest Region.
