South Dakota Festival of Books Announces Full 2026 Author Lineup

The South Dakota Humanities Council (SDHC) and South Dakota Center for the Book have announced the full lineup for the 2026 South Dakota Festival of Books, bringing authors, historians, poets, scholars and storytellers to downtown Sioux Falls on Saturday, October 3.

Among this year’s featured authors are Jeffrey Rosen, nationally recognized constitutional scholar and author of The Pursuit of Happiness; Anton Treuer, acclaimed Ojibwe author, historian and scholar; and Matthew Davis, author of A Biography of a Mountain: The Making and Meaning of Mount Rushmore and the 2026 One Book South Dakota selection.

Jeffrey Rosen, president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, is the author of The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America. His work explores American history, democracy and the ideas that shaped the nation.

Anton Treuer is an acclaimed Ojibwe author, historian and professor whose work explores Indigenous history, language and contemporary Native life. His books include Everything You Wanted to Know About Indians But Were Afraid to Ask, The Language Warrior’s Manifesto and The Assassination of Hole in the Day.

Matthew Davis joins the Festival as the 2026 One Book South Dakota author. His A Biography of a Mountain examines the complex history and meaning of Mount Rushmore through the people, politics and cultures connected to one of South Dakota’s most recognizable landmarks.

The Festival will feature a full day of author conversations, readings, workshops, book signings, children’s programming and the Festival Book Fair. The Holiday Inn Sioux Falls–City Centre will serve as the Festival’s main hub, with additional programming at the Downtown Library and Sioux Falls Coliseum.

A full lineup can be found at sdbookfest.org.
