Well, a holy rave wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025 but I’m all for it.
I remember when I was in high school and a small number of local churches started doing contemporary services. These services were aimed at young people and was almost unheard of at that time. This was the same era when bands like DC Talk, Kirk Franklin, Newsboys, Pillar, Skillet, POD and many others were putting “gospel” on the map.
Now in 2025, Pope Leo authorized a rave. A rave that was DJd by a priest that goes by DJ Guilherme. The music industry is crazy yall.

Busy day on Saturday! Shot down to setup for the Kingsley Pierson homecoming dance in Kingsley, IA at 1:30. Quick 30 minute setup and down to Sioux City at Morningside University with a small setup to play music for their homecoming festivities. Finished in Sioux City at 6:45 and hit the road back to Kingsley to finish setup and party from 8-10 for their homecoming.

Today’s event is power limited. Thankfully DJ equipment technology has come a long ways in the last 5 years. Today’s event I’m using 2 battery powered speakers, a battery mixer, an iPad and wired microphone.

With the right battery powered speakers and lights I could do an entire wedding reception without the need for an outlet. The technology is there, just have to get it bought 🙂

In 2021 I was the DJ for an outdoor wedding at a working farm. During the scavenger hunt I told the last 3 members of the wedding party to find a condom. This is always difficult, sometimes impossible. In this case they informed me it was too hard of a quest. On the microphone I said “it could be harder, I could have you catch a chicken.” To say the crowd went nuts is an understatement. The wedding party members all agreed that this was the winning choice. First one back with a live chicken won. There were grass stained dresses, ripped dress shirts and plenty of dirt on clothes but there were also tons of laughs.
