It’s state fair season in Alaska! 🎡🌻

The Alaska State Fair is one of our favorite celebrations of everything that makes this state special—from Alaska-grown goods and fair food to local artists, makers, and longtime family-run businesses.

Just another day on the Alaska coast 🐻

Coastal brown bears are one of Alaska’s most iconic wildlife sightings, often found near shorelines, rivers and salmon streams during the summer months.

And sometimes, you catch them doing absolutely nothing at all 😴

As the season begins to change, brown bears start spending even more time fueling up for the long winter ahead. Late summer and fall are important feeding months, when bears take advantage of food sources like salmon and berries to pack on the pounds before denning season. 🫐🍓

That means if you’re traveling Alaska this time of year, you may spot some very busy and very well-fed bears along the way!

Always remember to admire Alaska’s wildlife from a safe distance. 🌲

Last few weeks of dipnetting season means all of Alaska is out on the beach getting the job done!

Every summer, thousands of Alaskans head to the Kenai River for one of the state’s most unique traditions: dipnetting. 🐟

For a few weeks each year, Alaska residents can harvest salmon using large handheld nets as the fish make their way upstream. It’s part of Alaska’s personal use fishery, giving families the opportunity to fill their freezers with wild salmon that will feed them throughout the year.

It’s hard work, but for many Alaskans, it’s a tradition that’s been passed down for generations and a true sign that summer has arrived.
