We need you to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of America!

The Slatonite is seeking stories from people who have been a part of America’s milestone celebrations.

Those who might have seen or been part of the July 4, 1976 American Bicentennial, the 200th anniversary celebrations of the US Constitution (Sept. 17, 1987), military stories and other ones celebrating America are welcome.

Stories need to be about 500 words total, with a 600 word maximum. Photos may also be included.

Those interested in submitting an article can send them to Editor Melissa McCaghren at [email protected].

Deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, June 22, and stories will publish in order received.

Office alert: You may notice that the Slatonite’s lights are off during the day with an open sign.

We are keeping our lights off right now as a way to save energy during these warmer temperatures to prevent brownouts and rolling blackouts.

Occasionally, we also have a lights off to help assist on layout and ad design.

If we are out of the office, we will have a sign up saying that we’re out. Thank you for your understanding and support of the paper – Melissa, editor.
