POOL PROBLEMS DELAY OPENING
The hoped for opening day at the Sleepy Eye Family Aquatic Center was Monday, June 2, but it wasn’t to be. Last Friday, with no water in the pool yet, SEFAC staff posted on Facebook that due to delays in repairs they did not know when the pool could open for the season. On Saturday, the city clarified on their page that the delayed repairs were the result of many area pools needing repairs also, “It appears the last couple snowless winters were hard on many pools in the area.”
There turned out to be progress over the weekend. Monday morning, Parks Director Matt Schmidt said the repairs needed were to several areas of tiles that stripe the swimming lanes.
“Saturday night the contractor came and repaired the tiles,” he said. “I wouldn’t have even known but I live close by and saw they were here. Sunday we started filling the pool with water.”
On Monday, when a photo was taken at the pool, Schmidt said the next step was to run the water filtering system, and if that worked (which he confirmed later in the afternoon was working) to adjust the chemicals in the water. He wouldn’t even offer a guess of when the pool could open.
Schmidt said there were some small plaster repairs done in the kiddie pool and it could be filled with water Monday morning also.
Stay tuned to the Sleepy Eye Family Aquatic Center page for news on when the pool will open.
