We are proud to announce Sean Mclain Brown's "Shrapnel: A Dictionary of Damages", as the winner of the 2026 Slapering Hol Press Chapbook Contest!

Sean Mclain Brown is a combat disabled Marine Corps veteran and member of Maxine Hong Kingston's Veterans Writing Group. His writing is shaped by the lasting consequences of war. He is the recipient of the Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Prize. His poetry and fiction appear in The San Francisco Chronicle, Indiana Review, the anthologies Veterans of War, Veterans of Peace, An Introduction to the Prose Poem, and Convergence: Poetry on the Environmental Impacts of War.

We are so excited to celebrate our Meridian Series of Chinese Translations with you all in just over a week at the 15th Annual New York City Poetry Festival!

When: Saturday, July 18, 2026 @ 2:30 PM
Where: Blackbird Stage, Governors Island

This in-person event will feature Lan Lan and Quan Zi through readings of English translations from the Meridian Series of Contemporary Chinese Poets.

Xinyue Huang will read English translations of poems by Lan Lan and Quan Zi.

Poet Michael Quattrone, HVWC Board Chairperson, and Poet Xinyue Huang will introduce and present the readings.

Featured Poets:
Lan Lan — One of contemporary China’s leading poets and essayists, Lan Lan began publishing at age fourteen and has received numerous honors, including the Poetry and People International Poetry Prize and the Su Shi Poetry Award.

Quan Zi — An award-winning contemporary Chinese poet and essayist, Quan Zi is the author of numerous poetry collections and recipient of the Ai Qing Poetry Award and Liu Lian Poetry Award.
