Venus Meets Spica: A Stunning Celestial Pairing in the Evening Sky
On September 2, 2026, Venus and Spica will appear remarkably close together in the western evening sky shortly after sunset. Venus will shine as the much brighter object, glowing brilliantly near the fainter blue-white light of Spica, the brightest star in the constellation Virgo.
The two will be separated by only about 1.7 degrees, creating a beautiful and eye-catching celestial pairing. Although they may appear almost side by side from Earth, this is only an apparent alignment—Venus and Spica are actually separated by an enormous distance in space.
For the best view, look toward the western to west-southwestern horizon soon after sunset. Since both objects will be relatively low in the sky, choose a location with a clear, unobstructed horizon. Venus should become visible first as twilight begins to fade, with Spica appearing more clearly as the sky gets darker.
