On our way to Serengeti from Ngorongoro Crater last month, we came across a tower of giraffes by the side of the road. Most of them were lying down, like this girl, which isn't a common sight.
Giraffes don't need much sleep -- only about 30 minutes a day, and usually not for more than 5 minutes at a time. Sometimes the young ones will turn their neck and rest their head on their back as if it's a pillow, while adults can -- literally -- sleep standing up.
