Rick Torre is a dedicated, steadfast individual who commits fully to everything he takes on—and he never quits. His life is defined by loyalty, perseverance, and long-term devotion to the people and places he cares about.

For 37 years, Rick has proudly served the Smithtown Fire Department. He has also built an impressive 40-year career with P.C. Richard & Son, a testament to his work ethic, consistency, and reliability.

This May, Rick and his wife will celebrate 25 years of marriage—another reflection of his unwavering commitment. A lifelong Smithtown resident, he has spent all 54 years of his life in the community and has lived in his home for 25 years, rooting himself deeply in the town he loves.

For the last five years, Rick has served as the Public Information Officer for the Smithtown Fire Department, continuing to give his time and energy to keeping the public informed.

Everything Rick takes on, he stands by for the long haul. He doesn’t walk away—he stays, he serves, and he follows through.

In the days following 9/11, Rick Torre, alongside other members of our department were called to Ground Zero just 48 hours after the attacks. We spent nearly 35 straight hours on scene, working alongside countless first responders in the most challenging times imaginable.

Our rescue truck, 4-2-9, was positioned on Fulton Street at the corner of Water Street — just three blocks from the pile. With the area completely without power, our primary mission was to provide critical lighting so search and recovery operations could continue safely through the night.

At one point, we were prepared to deploy our cutting tools as needed, but those efforts ultimately shifted as the operation evolved.

Even all these years later, the memories of those hours stay with us. They remind us why service matters, why community matters, and why we continue to show up when we’re needed most.
