This is one of the biggest concerns we hear from families:

“I want my child in a general education classroom so they can make friends.”

And we get it.
Every parent wants connection for their child.

But here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:

If a child has to mask all day to “fit in”…
If they need an aide attached to them just to survive the environment…
If they’re constantly being pulled out for modifications, breaks, and support…

They aren’t building friendships.
They’re managing.

And when a child spends the entire day working to look “typical,” the cost is huge: burnout, anxiety, shutdowns at home, and often… loneliness in a room full of kids.

Because real friendship doesn’t come from proximity.
It comes from belonging.

Inclusion is not placing a child in a general education classroom and calling it a win.

Inclusion is creating spaces where neurodivergent kids can be safe, understood, and authentically themselves — while building true peer connection and social confidence.

At Beehave, the goal isn’t “blend in.”

The goal is:
✔ communication
✔ independence
✔ confidence
✔ community
✔ and friendships that don’t require masking to keep.

Because if inclusion requires a child to hide who they are…
it’s not inclusion.
It’s compliance.

If your ABA is sitting at a table doing “touch red” with color cards… you might be sitting at the wrong ABA table. 😉

At Beehave Academy, when we say community + play-based ABA, we mean it.
Because real independence and authentic confidence don’t come from perfect worksheets — they come from real life.

Today that looked like:
🍕 pizza with peers
🍿 popcorn in hand
🎬 lights down at the movie theater
🗣 kids using their voices
💛 and brave little moments that turn into big growth

Huge shoutout to North Bend Theatre for welcoming our crew like family. And an even bigger shoutout to our incredible staff who spent their Saturday showing up for our kids — and our students who tried something new, navigated big feelings, and practiced being out in the world.

This is the kind of community we’re building… and we’re just getting started. 🐝✨
