To our Bosque del Apache staff,
Thank you for your unwavering dedication. It has been a relentlessly tough year with drought, insufficient funds to do your work, and a weeks-long shutdown during your busiest time of year.
One of you showed up on duty every day during the shutdown, without pay.
After just one day back, you've already got the wetlands filling with water.
We appreciate you deeply.
Thank you for everything you do to keep Bosque del Apache a place of peace, beauty, and refuge for wildlife and people alike.

To all our upcoming visitors: please be patient as staff work hard to catch up with over a month and a half of maintenance and care for the wetlands, roads, and habitat.

And be sure to thank refuge staff when you see them.

You can email them your appreciation at [email protected]

Festival of the Cranes 2025 is Cancelled
Due to the ongoing government shutdown, Friends of Bosque del Apache has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Festival of the Cranes. We are heartbroken, however, we must acknowledge that it is best for both the refuge and the public to cancel this year’s event.

When the shutdown ends, refuge staff will dive into mowing, flooding, and preparing habitat for our winter birds and will not have time to prepare for Festival visitors. Additionally, we simply cannot give our guests, many who travel great distances, enough time to make their reservations and plans.

We deeply value your support for the refuge and Friends. During these unprecedented times, we need your support more than ever to face multiple challenges, including water shortages and continuing budget reductions. Many of you have reached out to ask how you can help, and there is much you can do to make a difference:

Your support can help fill the gap
* Give a monthly or one-time donation
* Do your holiday shopping in our online Nature Store
* Buy a raffle ticket for this year's gorgeous crane themed quilt
* Proudly display one of our “I Support Bosque del Apache” stickers!
You’ll find all of this and more at https://friendsofbosquedelapache.org/oasis/

Your Voice Matters! – Contact your representatives and let them know how the government shutdown is affecting your favorite National Wildlife Refuge.

Spread the Word – tell your friends and family about the importance of this critical wetland oasis in the desert, or better yet – invite them to join our mailing list so they will receive regular updates and newsletters. The more people who understand the importance of conservation, the bigger the impact we can have together!

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. We hope to see you at Festival of the Cranes 2026!
