Your daughter is going to call you in a panic, crying, begging for money. Except it won't be her.
This is not a someday problem. It is happening RIGHT NOW, to real families, this week.
AI voice cloning has gotten so good that a scammer only needs a few seconds of someone's voice (pulled from a video, a voicemail, a social post) to call you sounding EXACTLY like your kid, your spouse, or your sister.
The script is always the same: "Hey, I'm calling from a different number, I lost my phone. I'm in trouble and I need money fast." It sounds real because it literally is their voice. People are losing thousands to this today, and it is only getting worse.
So here's the simplest, cheapest defense there is, and it costs you nothing:
Pick a code word with the people you love.
Something only your family would know. Not your dog's name or anything a scammer could find online. Just a random word or phrase you all agree on.
Then the rule is simple: if someone calls in a panic asking for money or help, you ask for the code word. A real family member knows it. An AI never will.
That's it. One word can stop a scam that technology can't.
Do me a favor: share this so it reaches the people who might fall for it, and go set your family's code word tonight. Takes two minutes. Could save someone you love a fortune.
