Kidada & Aaliyah's friendship was the epitome of sisterhood. This timeless, vibrant friendship proved that Black sisterhood is refreshing & can be necessary to the soul. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
"When done correctly and with the right person or set of people, creating, nurturing, and maintaining solid friendships can be soothing to the soul. Black women already go through so many blatant or sometimes more nuanced things, and having a friend in your corner who gets it is priceless." - 21Ninety ⁣ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
The best friends wore charm bracelets that spelled out each other’s nickname. "Dada," which Aaliyah wore on hers & "Liyah" on Kidada’s bracelet. They simply uplifted & understood each other. ⁣

Although no friendship is perfect, building a beautiful, genuine companionship is possible. It is possible to find that sisterhood. ⁣⁣Mainstream society often portrays Black women as always being in opposition with each other for the most part. The stereotypical notion that women, especially Black women, have to have toxic relationships with one another is never accurate. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Having your person means peace of mind, limited drama, honesty, and happiness for each other’s successes without jealousy. When their is a common ground , genuine sisterhood can be obtainable. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Dada & Liyah.. 🖤⁣⁣⁣
The epitome of cool, calm & collected. ⁣⁣⁣

Hey Irish. 🦋🍀 I miss you, girl. After Irish's passing on Sept. 16th, her mom passed two months later. Her father then passed in December (they were both at her funeral). Irish had a twin sister, Orish, who passed in 2008 from kidney failure. Her parents had 7 kids total. It's some type of comfort knowing she's with these angels. ⁣⁣

I used to advocate for 702 all the time. Meaning, always wanting them to receive their flowers. I'm glad she was able to see how much she & the group had an impact on the culture & for girls who grew with them. An impact that will last beyond a lifetime. ⁣

Morris Chestnut & wife, Pam. "With my wife, I’m always letting her know what the deal is. ‘It’s you. Ain’t nobody else. It’s you.’ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The pair tied the knot in 1995. He says the number one thing that keeps them strong is mutual respect; that is, first and foremost.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
"I would like to think of myself as pretty perceptive because when I am in different types of situations, I am always watching and listening more than I am talking."⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The two met at a club: "We met in a club. I was doing something in Atlanta and at the time, it was Deion Sanders, Ron Grant and a dude named Tiny Lister (Deebo from Friday),“ explains Chestnut. “I was doing a tv movie out there and I went to the club. Tiny was living in Atlanta. He knew the ins and outs of the city, and he was just like, Mr. Atlanta. We were hanging out in the club and he told me about this chick, that chick, whatever. Then I saw Pam, who is my wife, and I said, ‘What’s up with her?’ He said, ‘Nah, man, don’t waste your time. She don’t give anybody no play.’ So as soon as he said that, I was like, ‘That’s the woman I need to go holler at.'"⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Being together for nearly three decades, Morris stated that he's never cheated on his wife, "I know I have a good woman." ⁣⁣

1991-- Tracee Ellis Ross, with her mom, Diana Ross, walked the runway for Thierry Mugler. On her 18th birthday, she made her runway debut during the French fashion house’s spring/summer “Butterfly Show” in Paris.⁣

But it all started with a phone call from Mugler, himself: The German-born designer of fantastical, sculptural, and sci-fi-influenced designs rang Tracee’s mother, asking the R&B diva to walk his over-the-top Spring 1991 “Butterfly” collection. Ms. Ross agreed, but only on the condition that then-17-year-old Tracee join her on the catwalk. Plastering her bedroom walls with images of Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista and pilfering from her mother’s own legendary closet, Tracee was obsessed with fashion and wanted in. “When my mom got that phone call, it was obvious by how she responded that she knew that for her daughter, this would be the end-all and be-all,” she recalls.⁣

Two weeks later, Tracee’s 18th birthday serendipitously fell on the same day as Mugler’s show. She says, "The icing on the cake is that Mugler invited me back to do the next show.." ⁣

The Owls Club was a Black women’s softball team formed in the late 1930s in Seattle. The Owls won the first women’s Washington State Softball Championship in 1938, playing at Sick’s Stadium, today the site of Rainier Avenue Lowe’s. ⁣

The team, renamed the Brown Bombers, won the championship again in 1939. Left-handed pitcher Lillian Brown struck out twelve batters on the Manette team in the championship game at the Civic Field, the site of the current Memorial Stadium. ⁣

Shown here (slide 2 & 5), eleven members of the Owls pose for a team photo. A handwritten slip with the photograph identifies the players as, standing, from left: Mary Yarbra Turner, Roberta Johnson Fair, Dolly Martin, Ina Miller, Harriett Booker, Melvina Freeman, Regiena Twaites Brown, Evelyn Williams; front row, from left: Mary Porter Tanner, Lillian Brown, Alice Powell Tanner.⁣

A hidden gem of Black excellency. 🖤

Whitney & Robyn: "You could tell Whitney & I were tight. It wasn't all about our sleeping together. We could be naked. We could be bare and didn't hide. We could trust each other with our secrets, our feelings, and who we were. We were friends. We were lovers. We were everything to each other. We were one: that's how it felt. Our relationship remained between us..."⁣⁣⁣
