The Boston Typewriter remix.

As a group that uses old-time equipment to make modern day music, we appreciate it when others apply the same attention to detail. So when ZIZZA said he made an entire remix using only a Fairlight CMI III, we said "hell to the yes." ZIZ claimed he was going for a New Jack Swing feel, but we're not hearing it. Instead it's just 1983 all over again and the future is going to involve a fax machine in every home and cell phones the size of shoe boxes.

Check out the new Garden Of Hedon single “Love And Light” available NOW !!!
Love And Light
*******************
There is a song
As old as time
About the thread that runs between
Everything alive
It’s a song of love
It’s a song of light
It says to love is the meaning of life
When your pain becomes too much
Lean on me let me be your crutch
When you’re praying
down on your knees
Let my love set you free
In these times of woe
To try and find some peace
I sing a song of hope to remind us
We are all one family
And sometimes there’s love
Other times there’s pain
Sometimes we must get lost
To find our way
Love and light is what we are
In our minds and in our hearts
I am you, you are me
Open your heart and you will see
A little love is all you need
Love is all you need
Love will set you free
Love will always be
Light of love shine down on me
Even on our worst day
We know we’ll still get by
Then again on our best day
When everyone’s feelin high
If you’re mind is full of question
Close your eyes to see
There you’ll find the answer
Love is all you need
What if these words
Weren’t just a song
And when we sang them together
The whole world sang along
Love and light is what we are
In our minds and in our hearts
I am you, you are me
Open your heart and you will see
A little love is all you need
Light of love shine down on me
Love is love is love
And love of love is all we need
Light of love shine down on me
Love is all you need
Love will set you free
Love will always be
Light of love shine down on me
Love is all you need
Love will set you free
Love will always be
Light of love shine down on me
Love is love is love
And love of love is all we need
And it starts with you and me.

“Love And Light” is a song about the common thread that connects us all to one another. It’s a song of hope. It’s a song of peace & solidarity…togetherness, understanding, compassion & love. I wrote this song during a very dark time in our world, politically, socially and otherwise. I felt like people (including myself) could really use some positivity and could maybe benefit from the message of a song like this and through the power of music. “I sing a song of hope to remind us we are all one family”. It’s an attempt to transcend the political divide and all the things keeping us apart & remind us that we are all one. Perhaps I’m an idealist but this is the kind of message i want to be putting out in the world and I know there are others who stand with me. “Love And Light is what we are/ in our minds and in our hearts/ I am you and you are me/ open your heart and you will see/ a little love is all you need.”
Be kind to one another- we are all in this together. Our differences in thoughts and values do not make us enemies. ”Love is love is love and love of love is all we need/ and it starts with you and me” ✌🏼
“Love And Light” will be available on all major streaming/download platforms next Friday 6/24! ☀️

When I shared some early demos with friends, this song got the most positive feedback. I was surprised because I didn't think much of it at the time. Since then, it's become one of my favorites and I absolutely love how the recording came out.
This was my first ever music collaboration with Benny Grotto. Nerd alert: We'd recently started playing D&D together, along with Henry and Charles from Aloud. (My first time playing D&D too, actually!) Benny killed this mix. It sounds so full, crisp, and ✨fantastically magical ✨ (probably from all the D&D).
Tim Wright's drums are imaginative and spot on, Kiel Szivos's bass locks in perfectly, Anthony Savino's lap steel brings this to another level, and I gotta say, Anthony Hoey's backing vocals are the secret sauce on this one. I promise you, it doesn't sound right without 'em!
The line "Even the calm before the storm" was originally "Even the witch inside the storm." This was my [unsuccessful] attempt to reference that scene in The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy's house is swept up in the tornado and the Wicked Witch flies by her window. "Calm before the storm" fits better, but I just love that scene.
I actually feel like this song still has growing to do, so I'm excited to play it live and see what happens!

Leave all the uncertainty behind and make a pact to fly far away with someone you love, literally or figuratively. It's a song to dedicate to your ride or die.
The chorus came to me in a dream. Words and melody only. I whispered it into my phone early one morning as I was waking up. It took me a few days to find chords and write the rest of the song, not because it was hard, but because I didn't want to force it. I remember not overthinking the lyrics while writing them, especially the verses and bridge, and because of that, I think they're perfect now. I wouldn't change anything about them.
The vocals and guitars are all from those few days. It's rare to catch an early demo take and be able to use it on the final, but they're the heart of this song.
I asked Nicole O'Neal of Indianapolis band Wife Patrol to play bass. It was our first time collaborating but she knew exactly what the song needed. I love what she did here.
I wanted to push the drum sounds further than my original demo. Tim Wright helped develop them into the dreamy, far-out-ness you hear on the final. I love those too.

Oh! The first single we released from the album! A song very much inspired by my cancer journey. I've already shared a lot about this one, but here are some extra nuggets:
🗣 The "oh!" vocal you hear in the song is actually a few tracks of "oh!" and a few tracks of "ow!" - not a mistake 🤓
🎸 The riff is something I've had kicking around since at least 2008, maybe longer. So glad it finally found a home.
💛 Really happy I got to record this with Matthew Glover and Kiel Szivos. Very meaningful collaboration with my brothers right here.
🔥 It is true, I recorded the guitar solo in my underwear!

For a long time this had no lyrics. I assumed I’d save this slow build arrangement idea and work it into some other song. Then I realized there was merit to letting it be exactly what it is. There’s no chorus, verse, or bridge, just a groove really, but it felt good to me, and strangely complete.
I resolved to try some vocal ideas. If they didn’t work out, I’d leave it as an instrumental.
The vocal melodies came just like the music did - by working fast and layering ideas. Throwing spaghetti at the wall, ya know? I couldn’t find a *bang bang bang / boom boom boom* drum sound for the instrumental that was BIG. I wanted those 6 hits to be the anchor of the entire rhythm. So I thought, maybe I’ll just sing it! And that became the main hook.
Initial lyrics came quickly but I tweaked them for months, changing syllables, one word here, half a word there. I cared about what was being said but not in a narrative story-like way. It was about words that sounded right and phrases that evoked… something! I guess there’s some innuendo in there too.
I programmed some drum machine sounds but I wanted a live drummer to come in halfway through the song to make the groove really settle in. Seth Botos sent over a dozen options to choose from (bless him). Funky stuff, straightforward stuff, off-the-wall fills. We ended up Frankenstein-ing multiple takes together.
My vocals alone weren’t cutting it. I asked Anika Pyle to track some versions of the hook and main vocal lines. Then I said, “Do some stuff where you just vocalize. Shout, laugh, make noise, don’t use words.” Much of that is in the final - my favorite being her overblown “woo!”
The title? Gas Station? Well, that’s just the first thing I thought of. Those are often the best titles.
