To Our Players,
This is Rowan, the man behind Starcap Games. Sorry for the radio silence this past month, but hopefully this update will make you feel informed and in-the-loop about Starcap's plans.
Summary of below: Starcap Games is still going, but I'm switching our focus to making Print and Plays through Patreon, which will be launched Friday.
Ever since I founded Starcap Games in 2015, I've been working so hard in order to get my games printed and into the hands of you wonderful players. Going from paper and pen to 1,000 copies of Now Everyone Get The F%$ # Out was two years of love and hardship, both of which I went through alone as the sole creator and publisher of the game. The highs of events like PAX West and getting onto Amazon were paired with deep lows of rejections and customs trouble. The radio silence and slowed development of other games that has been happening recently was in part due to emotional burnout, caused by dealing with printing, marketing, and distribution of a fully printed game as a solo developer. This has made me realize that solo-publishing, while a journey I don't regret for a moment with F%$ # Out, is not something I can go through again.
This in no way means that Starcap is ending; quite the opposite, actually. I've decided to switch the focus of Starcap Games to the production of Print and Play games, which don't require the parts of game development that overwhelmed me as a sole developer. I want to bring Starcap back to what I made it for: making games. My goal with this change is to get all of my ideas and designs out to you, the players, without the stresses of funding and printing that led to my recent burnout.
To help with this goal, I will be launching a Patreon for Starcap Games on Friday (March 2nd), where backers will get full art versions of the Print and Plays I create. Every dollar will go right back into running Starcap Games so I can keep making the games that you're all here for. I will comment on this post with the link, and will also be making a post for it specifically.
Thanks to each and every one of you for being here with me during this journey. I love meeting you at events and seeing your posts online. Hearing people talking to each other about my games makes my week, because it means that my creation is out there and being experienced by others. It's hard to express just how much it means to have you as a player of Starcap Games, so I'll just say it once more: thank you for joining me in this universe of play.
Cheers,
Rowan
