This week on the Big Show, live in the studio will be several musicians that are all participating in the Sonoma Palooza event on Dec. 10 at the Sebastiani Theatre, including Jenni Purcell, John Arntz and more. The event is the brainchild of local Robyn Johnson as an event for her birthday to benefit La Luz Center. You have likely seen Robyn at a number of local music venues, behind the bar for years at the Sonoma Speakeasy and most recently, the manager of the Parkside Tasting Bar on the Plaza where she is bringing jazz to the room. Tune into the show live on KSVY on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. to catch is live, or stream it or download the app. Or, catch the pod and videocast later. The full press release is below:

"On December 10 at 7:30pm, nearly 30 of the North Bay’s most talented musicians will gather to celebrate, support and create a truly unique musical experience at the historic Sebastiani Theatre in downtown Sonoma. The SonomaPalooza “mini festival” is a fundraiser for La Luz Center Sonoma, who provide vital services and support to the local Hispanic community during these challenging times. The show is inspired by the birthday of Sonoma local music supporter, Robyn Johnson (Parkside Wine Bar).

Michael Israel brings his mega-talented group, The Blender to the stage with special guests, including guitarist David Aguilar (Big Brother and the Holding Company). These artists will be “blending” with the virtuosic Sonoma String Collective to produce many unique arrangements of some of the band’s favorite tunes, plus a few 90’s alternative tunes. Micheal comments: “We’re all incredibly excited about the evening’s music. I’ve paired up artists from my many ventures into some incredibly exciting matches. This will be next level stuff for everyone involved!”

John Arntz (Strange Daze, Chartreuse Effect, Live Band Karaoke) brings a group of musicians assembled from his many projects to the show. John and Andy Ting of the Sonoma String Collective worked together to feature strings on special arrangements of songs, again featuring ‘90s alternative rock hits mixed in with other favorites. “The magic of this evening will be the blurring of boundaries between bands and between musicians. There will be multiple opportunities for guest singers and musicians to join other bands during the evening, and some of the tunes being performed will have interesting and unusual interpretations” – John Arntz.

Regarding the unique nature of the show, Sonoma String Collective’s Andy Ting remarks: “We are so excited to play SonomaPalooza! As classically trained musicians, we don’t often get the opportunity to rock out, but myself and my quartet members, Samual Strong, Miranda Ronan, and Anuja Dave are thrilled to collaborate with the great bands of Sonoma! It would not have been possible without our wonderful arranger/composer Colin Hathorn”.

Several guest artists, all stars in their own right, will be featured throughout the show. Guest artists Include Jenni Purcell (Ravendaisy), Sue Albano (Scarlett Letters, Groove Incident), Sharyn Paquette (Bayou Moon, Sonoma Sound Syndicate), Violet Lux (violetlux_), Will Cotter (Illegitimate AC/DC, Scarlett Letters) and Max Schimm (Strange Daze). Featured artist Jenni Purcell: “We’re all thrilled to bring something special to the night. The chance to mix in with so many great performers is wonderful! I am looking forward to a night full of surprises, passionate performances and the love of our great local music scene.”

Tickets for the show are available for a modest $25 (plus $3 service fee) at www.Sebastianitheatre.org

This week on the Big Show we will be changing up the format a bit. There will be no live performances, but interviews and chats with the 3 acts that are playing the Sebastiani Theatre this Saturday, Nov. 15. Illegitimate ACDC, Strange Daze and Vintage youth. Vintage Youth will be calling in from the Central Valley where they hail from and members of the other acts will be in studio talking about how they ended up doing tribute acts, and these particular ones and playing some deep cuts and favorites from the bands. We will also be giving away 2 pairs of tickets to the show to people that can answer some obscure trivia questions about the bands. So tune in at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12 on KSVY Sonoma and catch the show live. This one will not be podcasted and possibly not video as well, as they'll just strip the show with copy-written music.

This week on the big show we have live in the studio Audio Angel with Josh Windmiller. Tune in Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. on the FM or hit the podcast and videocasts later.

"Josh Windmiller & Audio Angel

King of The North Bay. Queen of The Underground. Both humble servants of every style of music imaginable. Ever-listening and ever-evolving, Audio Angel [ Audio Angel & Her Good Intentions ] is always looking for new ways to interpret her lives (real & imagined) through her music, authentically. Community-driven and a tireless inspiration, Josh Windmiller [ The Crux ] leaves you considering what it means to pour your soul into a moment, shatter it and then start all over again. Together, if their music was an animal, it would be a 60-year old peacock - struttin. Humbly struttin. "

We are back in the studio on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. on KSVY Sonoma with Radio Bobcat. Tune in on the FM and we'll find out where that band name came from first off, and hear some tunes as well. Or catch the video or podcast after the show.

"Radio Bobcat is a high-energy Americana Rock and Roll band tearing through Northern California with a sound that's equal parts raw power and improvisational soul. Formed in 2023, the quartet—Shane Soldinger (guitar/lead vocals), Sean Allen (lead guitar/vocals), Joe Shotwell (percussion/vocals), and Jack Hines (bass/vocals)—creates music that pulses with a positive vibration that unites everyone in the room.

Named after the wild spirit of perseverance that roams the Northern California landscape, Radio Bobcat channels the restless energy, the timeless groove and the communal jam ethos of the great Rock and Roll continuum. In short order, the band has crafted an impressive catalog of compelling originals alongside reimagined deep covers, delivering them with a rock and roll backbone that knows when to lock in tight and when to let loose.

Whether they're lighting up venues across Napa and Sonoma or expanding their reach beyond, every show is an invitation to be part of something bigger. With music streaming now and vinyl on the horizon, Radio Bobcat is proving that rock and roll isn't just alive in the Bay Area, it's thriving."
