AI advice tends to start with: “Here are 10 things you can do with AI.” I think there’s a more useful question: What’s annoying you?

One person was tired of deciding what to wear. Another wanted AI to keep track of wine and figure out what to drink with dinner. Others tackled family streaming, personalized lessons and gardening.

Different problems. Same basic idea: find the friction, then give AI a job.

I rounded up some of the most interesting real-world AI workflows I’ve found—and they’re a lot more practical than a list of futuristic predictions.

Sometimes the little things are what make a website feel custom.

For Claire Ortalda’s new website, we didn’t want her books to look like a generic list of titles dropped onto a page. They’re a central part of her professional identity, so we created a more tailored presentation for them using custom coding—while keeping the rest of the site manageable in WordPress.

That’s the balance I’m always looking for: custom enough to feel distinctive. Practical enough for the client to live with.

And now, with AI-assisted tools changing how we can explore and develop ideas, that balance is getting even more interesting.

It’s National Boss/Employee Exchange Day, so this employee has taken the boss’s chair—and apparently the best spot in the office. 👑Her first executive decision: no one gets it back. What might your team notice if management spent a day doing their job? 👷‍♀️

Back to business? Not so fast.

I spent part of Labor Day weekend doing something I don't normally associate with “work.”

I gave a task to my AI team—and went outside with a glass of wine.😎

Turns out, that got me thinking about what “back to business” really means.

AI doesn’t eliminate the tedious parts of design. It changes the economics of exploration.

That’s one of the biggest things I learned while building Claire Ortalda’s new website. Instead of spending hours developing one visual direction only to discover it wasn’t right, we could explore several approaches quickly, compare them against Claire’s goals, discard the weak ones, and develop the strongest direction further.

The technology didn’t make the design decisions. It gave us more possibilities to choose from.

I wrote about how that worked in Claire’s website project—and why I think it points toward some interesting changes in the way websites will be designed.

Management: “Go fetch.”

Worker: “I’ve reviewed the assignment and determined that my attention is better spent on the person who threw it.”

This Labor Day, here’s to the workers who know the difference between being busy and doing what matters. Happy Labor Day.

A new website. A very happy author. And a rather interesting experiment in how we build websites.

Claire Ortalda’s new site is officially live, and I’m pretty darn pleased with how it came together.

The project involved a cohesive new visual direction, custom graphics, a distinctive presentation for Claire’s books—and some AI-assisted exploration behind the scenes.

AI didn't design the website. But it did change how we could explore ideas and possibilities along the way.

I wrote a behind-the-scenes look at the project, including what we tried, what we rejected, and what AI actually contributed to the process.

The back-to-school rush can make us feel as if we should have accomplished more by now. But business goals don’t come with one universal timetable. You’re not behind—you’re building at the pace your business requires. What are you focusing on this week?

A new digital home for Claire’s work: A website should do more than exist—it should introduce you clearly, reflect the quality of your work, and make it easy for the right people to take the next step. Claire’s previous site had become difficult to navigate and no longer represented where her work was today. We rebuilt it with a clearer structure, a more confident visual identity, and a much more welcoming experience for visitors. Take a look: https://claireortalda.com/

Apparently, authenticity has become a marketing strategy. Which is a little hilarious when you think about it.

We’ve spent years learning how to polish our brands, perfect our messaging, optimize our websites, and—now—ask AI to help us sound more like ourselves.

At some point, we may have to admit the obvious: the goal isn’t to sound authentic. It’s to actually ❤️be❤️ authentic.

That starts with knowing what you stand for, what you do differently, and who you genuinely want to attract.

(And if your brand has started sounding suspiciously like everyone else’s, we should probably talk. 😉)
