Historic Soul City Holds First Annual Black History Parade!

Residents and supporters of the historic Soul City in North Carolina celebrated their first Annual Black History Parade. Soul City was established in Warren County in 1969 by civil rights attorney, Floyd McKissick and supporters. Its mission was to create a self-sustained multiracial city in the South to provide housing and economic independence for African Americans. After years of defunding efforts led by segregationists such as North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms, Soul City continues to exist. Today, residents and supporters work to build a thriving community.

Today's theme, showcases creatives in conservation and how artists use their craft to raise awareness. Originally from Washington, D.C., Stover is a Cultural Historian, Poet and Birder currently living in Cary, NC.

Coverage of 2023 Indigenous People’s Day Convergence held by Urban Native Collective in Cincinnati, Ohio. From October 6-9 space was intentionally held to amplify Afro-Indigenous voices, experiences, and artists. The convergence included a gallery opening event at the 21C Hotel featuring the artwork of Afro-Indigenous artists: Ayanna Proctor, Indigo Gonzales Miller- , Victoria Carrington- , Cayman K. and Leonard Harmon- , with performances by the Copper Face United Powwow Dancers and spoken word artist Leilani Clark. Over the weekend there were public speaker series with the artists including the live recording of UNC podcast with guest host Jae Merica. The convergence ended with an Indigenous People’s Day Feast at Jacob Hoffner Park.

Opening of 'Hostile Terrain 94' Art Exhibit in South Tucson, Arizona

Participatory community art project Hostile Terrain 94 raises awareness on the loss of human lives along the Southern Arizona border with Mexico due to 90's era U.S. border enforcement policies.

The exhibit is sponsored and organized by Colibri Center for Human Rights and the Undocumented Migration Project and was hosted in South Tucson by Galeria Mitotera and the Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry.

The Queens trans community and allies gathered to remember Melissa Nuñez, a trans woman, activist and beloved member of the local community. On October 18, 2022 she was killed in Honduras after being deported from the U.S.

President Biden’s recent enactments of the Center for Disease Control’s Title 42 to deport migrants, sets a dangerous precedent as a tool for enforcement. When former President Trump used Title 42 during the height of the COVID 19 outbreak, then-Senators Biden and Harris severely criticized its implementation.

US Park Police Use Horses to Intimidate Pride Event at Riis Beach, NY

Ceyenne Doroshow, Executive Directive of GLITS Inc., holds a permitted Pride celebration at Riis Beach, New York. Their goal is to convert an abandoned hospital into an LGBTQIA+ Center and historic landmark. Riis Beach in the Rockaways is a staple of LGBTQIA+ community, used as a safe space to enjoy the beach. Heavy police presence was seen at the event. Mounted Police used horses to intimidate guests.
