Folks are already reaching out loving the episode! Many many generations grew up in this neighborhood. And if you didn’t, the history is still amazing!

🚨NEW EPISODE ALERT🚨

Hooligan Heights is a 120 year old Mishawaka neighborhood that has an amazing history!

In this episode, I meet with local historian Susanna Ernst. She wrote a wonderful article titled “Hooligan Heights: Mishawaka’s Wild West.” We discuss her article as she shares the story behind the neighborhood’s history.

As you’ll learn, its history is multi-layered and, in my opinion, Susanna’s words in her article’s introduction sums it up:

“While the area is often overlooked in discussions of Mishawaka history, its tumultuous past was a microcosm of what was infamously happening in residential areas throughout the United States in the 1920s-1960s. Hooligan Heights’ history of restrictive covenants, federal housing policy, and subsequent urban renewal tells the tale of Mishawaka’s Wild West.”
