A tragic note from CLMP today:

Publishers Weekly reports that the National Endowment for the Arts has rescinded 2025 grants for at least 40 of the 51 publishers who received them. Four Literary Arts staff members at the NEA, including Literary Arts Director Amy Stolls, have announced that their last day will be May 30. The Washington Post reports that the Trump administration proposed eliminating the NEA, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Library and Museum Services in the national budget for the next fiscal year.

WINNER OF THE WOLFSON PROSE PRIZE

Congratulations to Terry Engel, winner of our 2023 prose competition for his novel, ARTIFACTS, a riveting story about a conflict between two brothers who have taken very different paths in life, starting from the same point as anti-government survivalists in the American west. While the younger brother goes off to college to study archaeology, the older brother is radicalized and is ultimately accused of murder. The younger brother searches for him in the Utah wilderness and tries to piece together what has gone wrong.

It was a difficult decision for our judge, Kelcey Ervick, because of the excellence of the competing manuscripts.
