As Vice President for University Relations at Notre Dame, Sexton helped shape the universityâs future, while also inspiring students as a beloved professor.
Yet, at the center of his life was his role as a devoted husband, father of six, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Guided by deep Catholic values, Bill Sextonâs story is one of humility, generosity and a steadfast commitment to both community and home.

Another middle-of-the-night vote. How many times will my heart break this year? This spring, it was the sudden and unexpected zeroing out of public media in the Indiana state budget. And now, the federal government has done the same. One third of our stationâs funding, gone.
For 51 years, PBS Michiana-WNIT has served as this communityâs classroom, stage, and connection. Weâve laughed and learned to read alongside your children. Weâve raised local voices. Weâve been your constant companion. Our goal, always, has been to make your world a little brighter, a little more interesting.
There is nothing more American than PBS, and nothing more Michiana than WNIT. Every story, every segment, every documentary is for you. Thank you for your belief in the power of public television. Thank you for your belief in us. We are here for you, just as we have been for the last five decades.
And we wonât be silenced by this. One third of our budget is a lot, but we wonât let it kill us. It might break our legs, and we may need to learn to walk again. We know youâll stand alongside us and help us navigate this new path. Because we are determined to be here, in this community, with you - telling your stories, learning alongside your kids, celebrating all that makes us great. Broken hearts - and broken legs - heal, and we will walk stronger and taller, with you by our side.
