The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), launched in January under Elon Musk with an 18-month mission to cut federal waste and spending, has quietly shut down eight months early. OPM Director Scott Kupor confirmed the agency “doesn’t exist,” though its website and X account remain active, recently claiming 78 terminated contracts saved $335 million. Overall, DOGE says it saved $214 billion—well below Musk’s original $1 trillion target.
