Michigan State University’s literary magazine, Red Cedar Review, is currently looking for submissions! The Red Cedar Review is the longest running undergraduate-managed literary magazine in the United States, and we would be delighted to review your work and give you the chance to publish. We encourage all creative works of art, poetry, and short prose, including flash and genre fiction, nonfiction, and one-act plays and screenplays. We also aim to publish emerging writers with fewer than four prior publications. We are accepting submissions until Thursday, October 15th at 11:59 PM.

Flights of Imagination in the Night Sky
(in connection with Truckee's Keep it Dark Astrotourism weekend Oct 1 - 4)

Join us for a creative workshop with coffee, tea, and breakfast goodies Sunday morning, Oct 3 from 10 am – Noon at the 9848 Gallery, 9848 Donner Pass Rd, Truckee. This creative writing workshop will be a supportive and productive experience for writers and photographers and night-sky admirers of all levels of experience. Bring an open mind and a hungry belly - coffee and pastries provided!

Inspired by the words of Tracy K Smith, this workshop caps Truckee’s Dark Skies weekend, a contemplation of the stars and the night sky that hang above us, visible and invisible, throughout our daily lives. Writers blend science with poetry, exploring connections between concepts of space, metaphor and time. Through reading poems by poets such as Ada Limon and Dana Goia, guided discussion, and innovative writing prompts, we will explore intersections with our personal lives and the larger planetary story, how to be human and how to exist with the other than human.

We’re once again asking you to send us stories that play with setting, that reimagine our world, or take us into places we’ve never been! Play with the edge of genre, but make sure your character is still the star of your story.

From July 20 to September 20, 2026, we welcome submissions to the 2026 Fractured Lit Elsewhere Prize.

For this contest, we want writers to be our tour guides through the unfamiliar, to engage their imaginations widely, and to write the stories that no bot or AI could write! We love unique, specific characters who are grounded in their story worlds, challenge the rules, and make dynamic choices!

For this prize, we are accepting micro and flash fiction, so we’re inviting submissions of stories from 100-1,000 words.

We’re thrilled to partner with Guest Judge Gina Chung, who will choose three prize winners from a shortlist. We’re excited to offer the winner of this prize $3,000 and publication, while the second- and third-place winners will receive publication and $300 and $200, respectively. All entries will be considered for publication.
