Happy birthday 🎂 🎂 to singer/songwriter Jackson Browne who turns 77 today. He's been one of my favs for a long time and not only have I seen but opened for him too a long time ago. Yes, toward the end of the last century. I'll be playing quite a few of my favorite tracks today on my radio show, Howie's Morning Rush KRLT 93-9 Radio Lake Tahoe so be forewarned! ❤

Every Tuesday on Howie's Morning Rush KRLT 93-9 Radio Lake Tahoe it's "T**e Talk with C & H" the 'C' being Cody Bass from Tahoe Wellness Center here in South Lake Tahoe. Love chatting with the Cody he's very knowledgeable in not just all things cannabis related but the politics of it as well. In addition to running the business full time he's also a city councilmember for the City of South Lake Tahoe Government and has been both mayor and mayor pro tem. On occasion Cody will bring samples in and to educate myself more will try some of those samples to sound better informed when I talk about whatever the topic is at hand. Now I'm hungry and need to find a burger outlet. 😹

On this day in 1962, Loretta Lynn was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, marking a turning point in country music history. 🌟 From her humble beginnings in Butcher Hollow to becoming the first woman named CMA Entertainer of the Year, Loretta blazed a trail that forever changed the Opry stage—and the genre itself. I feel blessed being able to meet her when I was promoting a comedy show on a different radio show that she was on just down the hall and wound up opening for her. I don't know what it is about country and comedy but they sure make fir a very nice fit. Country audiences to me personally have always been the best. Some of the country acts I've had the privilidge of opening for include George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Jerry Jeff Walker, Asleep at the Wheel, Mark Collie and the legendary Johnny Cash. 💙 Congrats to Loretta Lynn. ❤

Tomorrow night at Harrah's Lake Tahoe it's Buddy Emmer and his band, The Buddy Emmer Blues Band takes the stage @ 8pm with their special blues guest, Trey Stone! A long time local and exceptional guitarist and vocalist, Trey once a member of Tower of Power (among so many others). It's been a long time since I've checked out the blues on Tuesday so yeah, long overdue. Hope to see you there on the Center Stage located next door to the fames South Shore Room. ❤

Happy birthday Joan Jett from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts! She turns a young 67 today and on the autumn equinox too! She's a singer, songwriter, guitarist, businesswoman, and actress. Often referred to as the "Godmother of Punk", she is regarded as a rock icon and an influential figure in popular rock music. She was a guest on my morning radio show and very shy. Once I got her to open up she was the most pleasant, down-to-earth soul ever. Happy birthday Joan!

Watching Farm Aid on CNN has been pretty good. I can't think of the last time I had CNN tuned in this long ever! Neil Young was a highlight and even though I've never been a fan of the Dave Matthews Band his acoustic set with Tim Reynolds was pretty good. There must've been a clause in the contract not allowing more than one camera on Bob Dylan because there was only one showing no closeup of him singing behind the piano. Kinda disappointing. I saw him once performing up here in Tahoe where he was easier to understand. The picture in the top right from left showing Neil Young - Reprise Records, Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp is my fav as I had the opportunity to meet and talk to all three. I have two pics here one with Willie the other with Mellencamp (puffing away on a cig when this was taken). We talked briefly about some of his songs my fav being "Small Town" and "Pink Houses" before his show up here in South Lake Tahoe. Neil I met pre-Tahoe when I was working for BAM Magazine back in the SF Bay Area. I saw him performing at the Mountain View Theatre with his latest band, The Blue Notes. The Mountain View Theater really was an old theater for movies and since it had no green room Neil and his band were parked in the back in this huge motor home that doubled as their green room. There were also several awesome classic cadillacs back there too. When Neil was nominated for a BAMMY in the Outstanding Song category for their hit, "This Note's For You" being a BAM representative I got to go back there, knock on their door to tell them! Guess who opened the door? Neil! All I remember was the aroma of pot and after telling him I was from BAM he and telling him his song had been nominated (which won in 1988 btw) he smiled, closed the door and I watched their show before heading back home to San Jose. Man, I was so stoked! I met Willie Nelson when he performed up here in the South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe. Btw, loved Willie Nelson & his family performing his song, “Everything is Bullsh*t.” That was hysterical! I had only been doing radio for a year but was able to interview him and yeah, I was nervous. After the chat he asked if I was going to be catching his show? I said, "Yeah, of course!" It was the same night both Improv founder Budd Friedman and Robin Williams were up here. Robin went on stage after Willie's set with a yellow pad and tried out some new material he was working out for his next special which I think was going to be on HBO. I just remember getting a huge joint from Nelson that I hung up in my office backstage at Harveys (now Caesars Republic) which didn't last very long being smoked by one of the comics that was performing that week at The Improv. Funny how watching tonight's Farm Aid special brought back so many memories. ❤

Happy birthday to country singer Trisha Yearwood! 🎂🎂 She truly is a sweet lady. I opened for her at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, CA. There's something about country artists that I've always had my best shows and have opened for quite a few that include George Strait, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Asleep at the Wheel, Mark Collie and yes, even the late, great Johnny Cash. ❤ Before opening for Trisha I had to replace a broken guitar string on my acoustic and she let me borrow her bus to replace it. Very nice indeed. Yearwood rose to fame with her 1991 debut single "She's in Love with the Boy", which became a number-one hit on the Billboard country singles chart. Its corresponding self-titled debut album sold over two million copies. Yearwood continued with a series of major country hits during the early to mid-1990s, including "The Woman Before Me" (1991), "Walkaway Joe" (1992), "The Song Remembers When" (1993), "###'s and OOO's (An American Girl)" (1994), and "Believe Me Baby (I Lied)" (1996). Yearwood's 1997 single "How Do I Live" reached number two on the U.S. country singles chart and was internationally successful. So happy HAPPY 61st birthday Trisha! ❤

I had Shelly Thomsen on my morning radio show, Howie's Morning Rush KRLT 93-9 Radio Lake Tahoe from SouthTahoePUD talking anout this. 75 years. That’s longer than the City of South Lake Tahoe Government was incorporated as a city. I’m looking forward to going justvto have Shelly show me the waste treatment plant. S**t? Yes! This Wednesday the 24th folks.
