Meet Asomaniwaa Akoto Akrofi, a 7-year-old referee from Ghana.

Inspired by her older brother, who is a football player, she decided to make her mark in the sport — this time with a whistle.

Asomaniwaa officiated during the group-stage matches of the FIFA Women’s Football Campaign held at Koforidua Technical University.

**A Win That Changes Destiny**

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno was a proud witness as the Ghana Police Service Ladies Football team clinched their first Malta Guinness Women's Premier League title in eight years, triumphing over the defending champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

This historic moment marks IGP Yohuno as the second IGP to witness the ladies capture a trophy in professional women's football in Ghana, following the footsteps of former IGP John Kudalor, who saw them lift the inaugural Women's FA Cup in 2016.

However, IGP Yohuno has accomplished something truly special by being the first to witness the team secure this highly coveted trophy that has eluded them for far too long.

Sometimes, all it takes is one decisive victory to set the wheels of destiny in motion. Back in 2016, many players joined the Ghana Police Service after their FA Cup triumph, with IGP John Kudalor in attendance.

Athletes like Deborah Afriyie delivered extraordinary performances that day, demonstrating not just their talent but a fierce determination to succeed.

After celebrating their victory, the players went on to complete police training, and today, they are not only outstanding footballers but also committed personnel serving their country in multiple capacities. Many have risen through the ranks and continue to excel in their careers.

While some players have since retired from football, they proudly serve as police officers, showcasing the meaningful impact of their journey.

Many have strategically chosen to enlist in various security services, knowing that as government employees, they ensure financial stability beyond their athletic careers. In the unfortunate event of a career-threatening injury, they have a safety net to support their futures.

The reality is that while there is money in football, Ghana’s women’s league has room for growth. Men’s football faces its challenges, creating complexities when it comes to elevating the women's game right now.

What’s truly exciting is that following their remarkable victory in the women's premier league against Ampem Darkoa, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is leading by example.

He is set to enlist all civilians in Polas FC into the Ghana Police Service, further strengthening the bond between sports and national service.

Based in Kumasi, played for Dreamz Ladies FC, qualified them from the lower division to the Women’s Premier League about 3 seasons ago.

Made her mark, she became a household name just after a season in the WPL

She captained Boaman Soko D/A Primary Captain, Breman M/A JHS Captain, Islamic Senior High School Captain, Dreamz Ladies and Black Princesses of Ghana at this year’s U20 ​⁠‬ Women’s World Cup™

She was voted the Best Player for the 2024/2025 Women’s Super Cup Tournament in Ghana and she has already debuted for the Senior National Women’s team of Ghana, The Black Queen.
