Minority donates GHS100K to Black Queens after WAFCON Bronze win

The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by its leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has donated GHC100,000 in cash to Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, in recognition of their outstanding performance at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The gesture was made during a special visit by the Black Queens to Parliament on Tuesday, July 29, where lawmakers gathered to celebrate the team’s recent success.

The donation is part of the Caucus’ broader effort to encourage women in sports and show appreciation for the national team’s achievement on the continental stage.

Mahama saw that Lumba was physically not okay when they met at Senior Citizens Day event and wanted to help him – A-Plus

Musician and political activist A-Plus has shared that President John Dramani Mahama had privately shown concern about Daddy Lumba’s health before his passing and had plans to support him.

According to A-Plus, the president noticed something wasn’t right when he saw Lumba at the Senior Citizens Day event.

“He told me Lumba didn’t look too well and that he wanted to help. He reached out, but Lumba, being very private, said he wanted to prepare before meeting him,” A-Plus said in an interview with GhanaWeb.

He added that Mahama even followed up twice, asking if Lumba had been contacted, but the highlife legend held back due to personal reasons.

“Now that he’s gone, I know the president will still do what he can to honour him,” he added.

Minority Chief Whip demands urgent briefing over mysterious killings

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has made a passionate appeal to Parliament, urging the Speaker to immediately summon the Interior Minister for a closed-door briefing following a series of killings across the country.

“It is very sad today, our colleague related a sad matter - killings of innocent citizens - and Speaker, I say this with a heavy heart,” he said on the floor of Parliament Friday, July 25.

He described the recent developments as deeply troubling, revealing that bodies of missing persons are being found just days after their disappearance.

“We have been reading news of people going missing, and the next day or two, their bodies are found. We’ve read a number of them. I can cite them, but it is a national security matter, and I need to be cautious how I relate to it.”

Calling for action under Order 60, Annoh-Dompreh requested the Speaker to urgently invite the Interior Minister — and potentially the National Security Minister — to meet with lawmakers behind closed doors.

“So now I want to come under Order 60 and pray that we invite the Minister for Interior and the national security not to meet us at plenary. You should meet us at close seating.”

He warned that the killings are ongoing and require immediate attention.

“Even yesterday, we had two killings again, in the Ashanti region. Even today, it has happened again. Then we can have a closed session for him to brief us. We may also have some good suggestions.”

Highlife legend Daddy Lumba passes away at 60

Ghana has lost one of its most cherished musical icons, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

He died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Sources close to the family confirmed that the highlife maestro was admitted days earlier and died at dawn.
By midday, a large number of fans and sympathisers had gathered at his East Legon residence in Accra, stunned by the news of his passing.

In an official statement issued by the family through their legal representatives, Baba Jamal & Associates, they described Daddy Lumba as more than just a musician.

He was a cultural icon whose voice and lyrics left a deep imprint on Ghana’s soul, the statement said.

I couldn't eat for six months – Kevin Taylor replies Nana Yaa for saying he caused her emotional stress when he called her a man

Controversial NDC activist and social media commentator Kevin Taylor has responded to Nana Yaa Brefo’s recent interview, where she opened up about the emotional toll of their past feud.

Kevin Taylor sarcastically claimed he also suffered “trauma” from the exchange — and even lost his appetite for months.

“I wrote something today. Nana Yaa Brefo has really traumatised me,” he said on Accra-based Radio Gold on Friday, July 25, 2025.
“I heard her say she was traumatised when I said some things about her. She also said some things that traumatised me. I couldn't eat for six months.”

Taylor recalled one of the painful statements Nana Yaa allegedly made during their clash.

“Nana Yaa, you also said something harsh to me. You told me to come to Ghana and marry a villager if I thought I was a sensible man. You spoke against my wife,” he said.

While he admitted that his response at the time came from a place of anger, he now believes the two can move on.

“If you now understand that what happened was wrong, I have also understood. It's trauma to trauma. We can both solve the problem,”

Kevin said, suggesting a possible end to their long-standing feud.

Payroll validators to be held accountable for 14,000 ghost names – Ato Forson

Speaking during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, Dr. Forson disclosed that ongoing audits have uncovered a staggering number of irregularities in the public wage system.

“So far, we’ve found about 14,000 people that we can’t validate. We can’t find them. They may be ghosts,” he said. “They are across sectors.”

In addition to the suspected ghost names, Dr. Forson revealed that approximately 53,000 “separated staff” — individuals who are retired, deceased, dismissed, or otherwise no longer eligible — have been identified as still appearing on the government’s payroll.

“These are people not supposed to be on the payroll,” he stressed. “I am waiting for the Auditor-General to provide the final numbers. Not only the Controller [and Accountant-General’s Department]; they all have questions to answer.”

“If you validate ghosts and knowingly allow someone who is not supposed to be on the payroll to receive public funds, we will hold you responsible,” the Minister added.

Prof. John Evans Atta Mills’ legacy inspired ‘Reset Agenda’ – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has attributed the incumbent administration’s Reset Agenda to the solid foundation laid by the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills through his Better Ghana Agenda.

President Mahama emphasised that the memorial should not be viewed merely as a ceremonial act, but as a national duty a moment to reflect on the legacy of the late President.

“If there’s one lesson we draw from the life of President Mills, it is that no challenge is insurmountable when we lead with integrity, when we listen with empathy, and when we govern with principle,” he stated.

“Professor Mills governed this country with a deep moral compass. He placed truth over expediency, people over politics, and the country over self,” the president said.

President Mahama further addressed the current state of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Library, plans are underway to renovate and restore the facility to its intended standard.

Professor Mills served as president from 2009 until his death in 2012. He is widely remembered for his calm approach to leadership, promotion of peace, and focus on social justice.

GIS Arrests 50 Nigerians In Cyber Fraud, Trafficking Raid At McCarthy Hills

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 50 Nigerian nationals in a dawn operation targeting illegal residency and cybercrime activities at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, and signed by Michael Amoako-Atta, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, the Service said the operation was based on intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area.

According to the GIS, some of the individuals arrested were trafficked into Ghana and subsequently forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators.

“The Ghana Immigration Service in the early hours of today, July 24, 2025, conducted a special operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality.

“The operation was based on intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators,” the statement said.

The Service confirmed that about 50 Nigerians were picked up during the operation, including the landlord of the apartment where the alleged illegal activity was taking place.

The GIS assured the public that it would provide updates in due course on the outcome of the operation and subsequent investigations.
