Ghanaian authorities have seized about $625,000 and a further $440,000 in cash linked to suspected drug trafficking

Authorities say they are targeting not only drug dealers but also the money and assets linked to the trade, with 73 assets traced and about 19kg of gold seized in suspected narcotics-related money-laundering cases.

Between January 2025 and July 2026, security agencies seized more than 8,500kg of illegal drugs and 45.4 million Tramadol tablets, resulting in 217 arrests and 165 prosecutions.

Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has hired new lawyers, Eric F. Long and Lucas D. Triott of Friedman Nemecek Long & Grant, LLC, after pleading not guilty to charges linked to an alleged $8 million romance fraud scheme.

The court has classified the case as complex after his former defence team sought more time to review extensive evidence.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for August 25, when new dates are expected to be set.
