This past week, GhanaMade visited the historic Accra Art Centre and met with Nas, a Ga painter, at his local shop in the Centre. We had the opportunity to tour Nasβs artwork, especially his most recently purchased work βAppalachianβ.
Appalachian is rich in texture and color, composed of vibrant hues like blues, yellows, reds, and greens. The piece features a dense and intricate mix of patterns, with dabs of color layered across the surface, creating a sense of depth and movement. The vibrant interplay of colors and the textured finish aligns with a broader Ghanaian contemporary art movement, which often emphasizes vivid colors and innovative techniques. Based in Accra, the artistβs work fits within a global appreciation for African artβs storytelling and cultural roots.
