išŸ’—u guys! Thank you for all the texts & message asking about me, I’ve missed you guys! Lots has happened since I’ve been on, so let’s catch up!
I briefly told yall about the basil-cell skin cancer that I had removed about 4 weeks ago and then about a week after that, I found out I had a spontaneous CSF leak. They say it can’t be connected, but the timing and location are so suspect! Let me explain about the leak, I don’t think many people know what it is because it’s kinda rare.
2 Saturday’s ago I woke up with a headache from hell & by early afternoon it turned into one of the WORST headaches of my life šŸ˜–
I don’t get headaches often but i worried going to the ER was overkill. On the other hand, this didn’t feel like your run-of-the-mill migraine & I kept going to worst-case-scenarios like: meningitis or a stoke (& i have a history of clots too). Seriously, the internal conflict I put myself through deciding to go to the ER or not, is EXHAUSTING! & I went 2 times, back to back! The 1st trip: had to be a world record for the fastest time anyone has ever been to the ER! In just over 2 hours, I had a clear CT scan & a marginally better headache thanks to an introduction to the migraine cocktail (a combo of Benadryl, Toradal & one more I cant remember, but unless you like feeling like a human screen saver, I do not recommend). Walking out, I knew I’d be back & on the hook for not just 1 really expensive trips to the ER, but 2āœŒšŸ¼. But I didn’t care lol that damn migraine cocktail, it must’ve broke my give-a-damn!🤣
Waking up the next morning, I actually felt ok & wondered if maybe it WAS just a migraine …. until I got out of bed! Standing up made my head pound like hell & laying back down, would stop it completely. & then I remembered it …. this headache felt just like when I had a spinal leak, from the epidural when I had Payton, 18 yrs ago! (i’m sure you have some very valid follow-up questions like ā€œhow could I have an 18yr oldā€šŸ¤£)
Back at the ER, for the second time in 24 hours, now feeling much worse! This trip was NOT like yesterday’s quick trip. After mentioning this felt similar to a spinal headache I had before, the doc ordered some different tests, specifically MRI’s. After being poked like a pin-cushion (see those bruises?) and spending what felt like HOURS in MRI machines, the doc came in to say that I did have another spinal leak, spontaneous this time (they would later tell me it was also extensive) AND that they were admitting me to the hospital.
In the hospital they did a blood patch, a surgical procedure where they draw blood from your arm & inject into your back, lower spinal area, near the leak. The idea is that your blood clots, sealing the leak! And it worked like a charm, the first time! This time around, because the leak is high, it can’t seal it. But it will help control the symptoms, so hopefully my body can heal itself.
After 3 days in the hospital & the blood patch onboard, they sent me home. With strict instructions: week 1: 90% flat on back, week 2: 70%, week 3: 50%, week 4: 30% and listen to what my body allows going forward. The more I can take it easy, the better the chances are that my body will heal itself. The more I’ve been reading about this, the more I worry that this is going to be a LONG road, it seems that sealing a spontaneous leak isn’t quite as easy as the first time.
I have the best neighbors & friends ever! I get teary eyed talking about it - the gratitude & love overwhelms me! One sweet neighbor arranged it so we had dinners brought in every single night that first week. A different family each night would show up around 6, with dinner! Some of them even had a second dinner for the freezer! One of them, for dessert, FILLED up my freezer with different ice creams and popsicle and I apparently those calories don’t count either!
One sweet friend brought me coffee after researching that caffeine is good for a me, ordered me long, bendy straws so I could drink it laying flat AND hung out for hours, to keep me from dying of boredom!
I think I just started week 3 of being home, and I know I’ve been noticeably absent on social media! I thought it would be hard to stay down, but it’s almost the opposite. Something about the pressure changes in the head when you get up from laying down,
is really tiring on your body. The exhaustion …. is exhausting! And my equilibrium is off, so there a lot of nausea! Unless I lay down flat, almost everything goes away. It’s maddening!! lol Except for the brain fog, which has been bad! I feel so slow in everything I do. In fact, I’ve been complaining of brain fog & bad memory, for the better part of a year now and there are signs it’s been slowly leaking for a while but my body was compensating, until it couldn’t anymore.
I’m hoping to get back to work! I miss you guys and a little self care would do me some good! Also, I am going to get into messenger tomorrow and start responding to everyone’s messages!
